Not very many "sealed for life" gearboxes do the job intended from what I've read and seen in various car programmes. Most need an oil change at some time or another is what they all seem to be saying.

As an aside note the gearbox is not a BMW gearbox, like most BMWs the X5's box is made by the German company ZF(who also supply gearboxes to VAG, Jaguar and Merc amongst others).

ZF also do a lot of steering racks too which have given up the ghost in my experience, but overall ZF are a good maker of components.
Sometimes stuff just goes wrong - regardless of the maker.

A ZF is fine, not a GM, lots of issues with this brand.

Worth noting that the auto gearboxes are sealed for life from BMW but honest john recommend cracking them open to change the oil every 60k otherwise the gearbox won't last past 120k.

Other than that they are a pointless car - a waste of fuel, metal, road surface and roadspace, all to pander to someones ego. The ultimate pen1s extension.[/QUOTE]

not another muppet, thats you opinion......try not to enforce it on everybody, i think we have seen enough of the SUV pointless posts :D:D:D

and pay 2k tax a year? Surely a 3.0D would be better value, but then again those 4.4petrols are available in the uk for 10 to 12 k sterling now?

    They are tempting.

jesus, does anybody understand the new tax system......you dont, thats for sure LOL

read the sticky at the top of the pag, they are 1491 to tax for a year.
