Just posting this for a mate.
He's got a 2meg Eircom BB package (Netopia 2247) and usually gets speeds between 500 & 700kb/s  An Eircom technician popped out to check it out and told him there was interference with the signal strength, and mentioned Sky Digital & cordless phones as the culprits. We disconnected the phones as a trial and as you can see below, the signal almost doubled.

Trouble is the phones have to go back on, so what can he do to get a decent speed again??? We heard theres an option to change channels on the router but havent the foggiest where to startl9iblush.gifbroadband noobs

Are there filters on the line at all points?
What make & model are the cordless phones?

No filters but that can be sorted. They're called "platinum 903t"

The interference may be occurring either in the Wireless Wi-Fi connection(if you are using this) or on the internal phone wiring in the house. If the interference is on the phone wiring, the filters will sort it out. You must put a filter on each phone socket that is in use. Changing channels on the eircom Router is easy to do, but will have no impact if the interference is in the phone wiring.

If the problem is wireless, then this is a little strange. If you are using standard European DECT phones, there is no way you can be experiencing wireless interference. They use a completely different band from WiFi. Perhaps you have obtained some WiFi or Bluetooth Cordless phones? These would share the same band as WiFi. If this is the case, I would strongly recommend changing to standard DECT cordless phones. WiFi band is polluted enough with TV repeaters, Microwaves etc. There is absolutely no reason to clog it up with cordless phones, when DECT keeps you clear of the band.

You can change the channel on the router by going to 192.168.1.254 in the address bar of your browser. Click on 3d wireless and advanced settings there. Your problem, though, is probably caused by the sky digital and will be sorted by putting a filter on the sky phone line.
