Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

    hi there guys,
ok ive been doing a college paper for social studies, and i decided to do it on the internet and paedophilia.
the main areas i wanted to talk about are laws and law enforcement, web vigilantes, and the ways predators can get to children through the internet.
now, i have alot of information on points 2 and 3 but am confused by number 1, laws and law enforcement.
i already know that ill talk briefly bout the loopholes in the past and what was done about them, and operation amethyst.
i was wondering if anyone has any input for me. im looking for info on whether the gardai use similar tactics like the american police(agents on chat rooms etc)
anyone who can point me in the direction of information on irish laws and techniques, i'd be grateful.

    thanks in advance,

    Nerin

I think its the Domestic Violence and Sexual Assault Investigation Unit at Harcourt Square deals with such matters. The main pieces of legislation are:
Child Trafficking and Pornography Act, 1998
Protection for Persons Reporting Child Abuse Act, 1998
    Child Care Act, 1991
    Children Act, 1997-2001

As I understand it, www.hotline.ie came about from work by www.copine.ie I don't think Ireland has a current honeytrap operation, but that isn't necessarily important given the internet is international.

    thanks!
got the essay done, that was the final part i needed to research. Kinda expected operation amethyst to only come about because of tip offs from the fbi.
that was the most draining essay i've ever done because of the horrors contained in it.
    thanks again.
