play sony hd cam movies from HD

Hi, I have a sony HD camcaorder. I have copied a few recordings to my HD all copy as .mpg files. None will play via realplayer, windows media player etc. What do i need to do to play the movies. I assume if I burn the staright to cd or dvd it play but id like to view on my HD. Any help greatly appreciated. Thanks

Most likely that your camera is recording as mpeg-2. Google for media player classic or vlc as both will play mpeg-2 without hassle.. or you could also jsut download the mpeg-2 codec for real/windows media player.
