Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

    Hi all,
We (my wife and I) and thinking of going halves on a motorhome with my wife's parents, and I've started to read this forum -there's a load of great info here and thanks to everyone for supplying it.

I'm leaning towards going to Germany and importing and I like the look of a lot of the vehicles here:
    http://www.wohnmobil-galerie.de/page_englisch/index.htm

I'd probably head over for one day to inspect them before we'd buy.

Have many people here dealt with them ?
I saw the derden dealt with them here : http://www.boards.ie/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=2055164566
and peasant has some warning about them here:
    http://www.boards.ie/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=2055137552&highlight=wohnmobil
but I don't see anything about guarentees or export only on the site.

I'm interested in the German site as it "seems" to be great value compared to dealers in Ireland - would that be a fair assumption in general ?

Our budget is in the €25,000 region so if anybody has any other suggestions as to where we should look it would be greatly appreciated.

Wohnmobilgalerie is one of the few dealers who has gone to the trouble of getting a good international web presence.

So they attract foreign buyers like honey attracts flies.
Unfortunately there also is a less pleasant substance that does attract flies :D

All I can say is: Inspect carefully.

There is one very big dealership (actually it's several dealerships right next to each other) that is not represented on mobile.de and unfortunately their website is only available in German.

    http://www.derfreistaat.de/wohnmobile_wohnwagen/wohnmobile_wohnwagen.php?finden=''&selNeuGebraucht=Gebrauchtwagen&selTyp=&selHersteller=&selBaureihe=&selModell=&selSortierung=preis_aufsteigend

this link lists their currently available used campers and caravans by price ...campers start on page three

"Der Freistaat" is about half an hour outside Munich (an hour max from the airport) and if you can get a cheap flight to Munich, their large selection would almost be worth going over there just for a "browsing session". Even if you don't buy, it should give you a pretty good idea of what's available on the market.

Yes we bought off of them and have had no problems since. As peasent says inspect everything carefully. If you are interested thinking about putting ours up for sale. PM me if you want details.

    Hi,

I did exactly what you are planning.

I used mobile.de you can select English and you can filter on motorhomes.
Use google or something similar to find their proximity to train lines etc... trains over there are excellent.

I spent about 30k on ours at a german dealer and I saved about 10-15k over similarly specced vans at Irish dealers.

You should keep a good eye on what the pricing is like here too. You may find something on carzone.ie or the like. Also let your friends know that you are in the market. One of them might know somebody who is selling and get you in touch. I got a fairly decent deal that way with a private sale here. I wouldn't have paid me to go to Germany.
