Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

I'm a bit confused, can anyone tell me how do you use the Nokia E65 as a GPS and what is Bluetooth GPS receiver.

From what i've read you buy the software for the phone as a one off payment then you buy a Bluetooth GPS receiver.

Is that it, will it then work as a GPS?

Also do you need to connect to the internet everytime you use the E65 as a GPS?

The E65 doesn't have built in gps (afaik) so you need to pair it with an external bluetooth gps receiver. Then you just need to get mapping software to put on your device. Although nokia probably do some kind of mapping software of their own (i'm not sure). Otherwise your looking at stuff like route66, Tomtom etc (just check the compatibility). Only thing is you need to make sure that the gps receiver is compatible with device and mapping software (nokia can be a bit restrictive with this afaik- never had a problem however pairing stuff on WM6 myself). Here's a similar query to yours that might help:

Im using tomtom 6 on my E65, i use it will a blue tooth gps reciever (not sure what make off hand) and it works well, there is no charge each time you use it.
To get it to work you connect your phone to your PC and use the data transfer option and copy a folder with the software onto it and a folder with the map. Then basically all you have to do is disconnect your phone from the PC. Goto menu->tools->app. manager and if you've done it right the installation file will be there, Im sure the installation for the other types are very similar.
There is an option that gives you up to date traffic information so maybe you could have to pay for that but ive never used it so i dont know, I don't even know if it would work in this country!

Yeah, basic GPS doesn't involve data costs.

But as stated the traffic update info with TomTom is a data download so obviously you'd have to pay for that data if you wanted it.
IIRC though from the few times I used the TT traffic thing, you don't get traffic info for Ireland, just the UK and the Continent.

Alternatively you could theoretically get traffic info via TMC- traffic messaging channel over an fm radio signal if your device has an fm tuner built in.
So no data costs at all.
Only problem is TMC isn't yet available in Ireland either. :(
It is in the UK though afaik.
TBH not too sure myself how TMC integrates with the satnav software but sounds cool.

One other thing: to get a quicker gps fix from a cold start your device may have the option to grab info on the satellite positions at a given time (involving a small data download) before you start out- meaning the gps device knows where to look for sats.
Actually now that I think of it that last bit may only apply to devices with built-in gps only.
