Hi. I am not a snowboarder but i have seen what appears to be a good looking nike acg goretex jacket which has been reduced from 350 to 200. I am thinking of using this as an everyday jacket for the rain etc plus the occasional trip into the mountains. does anybody know if these jackets are any good or in fact too good for what i am looking for? im thinking it might be a good investment which might last a few years. i dont really know anything about gore tex other than most outdoor people seem to use them. does this seem like a good deal? or would i be better off tracking a second hand one on ebay? or indeed get a fake one from thailand? any advice much appreciated.

I reckon it'd be too warm for everyday if it's a boarding jacket. I wear my old Dare2be one in work as it involves standing around in the cold and that works, but my proper new Quiksilver goretex uberjacket is waaaay too warm for normal use. Standing on the snow in Finland (between 0 and 5 degrees) with only a base layer and teeshirt under it I had to leave it open. Up in the snow I had it closed for the wind but had the vents open.
For mountainbiking and general assing about in rain and stuff I use my Burghaus water/wind proof job and that's perfect.

Bottom line it depends how warm it is. I reckon in that price range it would be crazy warm.

Thanks Don1. so you reckon itd be too warm. to be honest ive been feeling the cold a bit lately so i didnt think this would be too much of a bad thing but having never used one of these jackets before i dont really know. you mention the price range. is this very expensive for this type of jacket?

The temp depends on the person. I've seen people passing in the street in the two extremes, one with the snow jacket, hat, scarf and gloves and the other in a teeshirt! :p

As for the price, going on the initial price, without actually seeing it, I'd say your talking about a serious piece of kit. Considering you can get good quality starting from €150-200, your €350 price is fairly high! Then again it is Nike, and if the runners I used to buy are anything to go by the price doesn't guarantee quality!

Without actually having a hands on nose around it I won't be able to give a proper informed opinion, but if it was me I wouldn't.
I got myself a Quiksilver parka for €205 and it's the best everyday jacket ever, provided it's cold out. (nights out, standing in sub zero temps with a just a tee shirt on under it no bother!)
I save my snow jacket for snow!

Is this jacket not just a gore-tex shell -i.e. no lining? If so these are the best type -as you can use them all year round here, keeping out wind, rain etc.
As in all outdoor pursuits-its not your jacket that matters most in staying warm, its what is underneath it-good layering depending on temp. Other adv is they are not bulky and are suitcase friendly.

A jacket like that should last you years. Thinking of one like it myself. Where are you getting it for this price?

hi, the offer is on in a shop in spain called el corte ingles. i dont think its up on their website though. to be honest its a pretty pricey shop at the best of times and you ( i ) can only afford something when it is half price.

a good shop though is www.decathlon.co.uk which i would recommend for better value for money. there is one in england, france, italy, spain and as far as i know they ship.:)

A shop in spain no use to me-nor is Decathlon as they have no mail order service. I did not realise you were in spain-so strike the Nike recomendation and get your self to Decathlon and buy one of their own brands. Just as good and cheaper.

Thanks Kaisar. These are two im looking at at the moment. is there a big difference between them apart from the price?

Cant help you there. Surely you would just buy the one you like best-a jacket is not a major investment.
