    Hi

A girl in work has a full licence for the last 9 yrs but only drives locally and has no confidence to do any sort of distance. This is limiting her life (her sisters live in Navan and she has to get a bus to visit them instead of hoping in the car). Anyway she was wondering if there are any driving schools that specialise in people that have there test but need to build confidence.

Has any one else had this problem?

Please move this to a more suitable forum if you see fit.

    Thanks

Many of the bigger driving schools do motorway/longer distance training for fully licenced drivers of that kind, if you give a rough idea where she is someone may have some local experience.

It can be hit or miss with an instructor so she should contact the institute of advanced motoring http://www.iam.org.uk/irishadvancedmotorists/

I highly recommend them - one day and my driving imporved 100%

just shows how outdated the test is!!

I'm sure there's an instructor out there who could help her. I'm assuming here so probably as usual making an ass out of u and me...but does she drive a micra or similar???

I have a grandaunt who won't drive to Limerick as there's a 100km/h road. She learned to drive in her 70s but nearing 80 she hasn't yet passed her test after 2 attempts. Yet she'll regularly drive to Tipp Town no bother and get the bus to Limerick to visit my granny, who then drops her back to the bus to Tipp andthen she drives home....It's very restrictive, but some people just shouldn't drive as we learned a few weeks ago here.

I'd recommend finding an instructor with a bigger car than what she has, as it'll put her straight out of her comfort zone which is exactly what she sounds to need.

Go to www.irishmotoring.ie and click on what county she lives in and have a look at the ratings given to the instructors and also if they have any qualifications like the iam or dir. :)
