It could be a problem with the diesel particle filter - it may need to be put through the regeneration cycle. It's common enough on Peugeots, so I'll assume that the same goes for Citroen.
    CitroenNet wrote:
a software programme in the engine control unit that controls regeneration of the filter by post-injection every 400 to 500 km depending on the clogging pressure across the filter. The software also provides diagnostic information on the system. During regeneration, the inlet air is no longer cooled by passing through the air-air intercooler but is instead heated to raise the temperature of the mixture in the combustion chamber with a consequent increase in the temperature of the exhaust gases

The car needs to be put on a Citroen diagnosis machine to determine the exact nature of the fault. If it does need regeneration, the diagnosis software should be able to start the cycle.

You could always drive the car for a short while at 4,000 RPM (in third ;)) for 10 mins or so, this can cause some of the particles to burn off - similar to what the regeneration cycle does. I used this method on a Passat a few months ago and it worked.

This problem turned out to be a dirty fual regulating valve in the fuel pump.Valve needed to be replaced at a cost in total of €300 and problem has not reappeared:D
