Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

The husband of a friend of my sister's called Kent. Second name Clarke! Cruel parents.

Also Winston, Agnes, Verruca and Hillary are a bit over the hill.

Aeneas...... ( Pronounced "Anus"). Absolutely deadful name.

Ah, such ignorance. It's pronounced Ay-nee-as, and it's a fine, if unusual, name. My next door neighbour was an Aeneas.

I also worked with a Camillus, a Patrick Mary, an Ignatius and a Cornelius. I dunno why people have problems with these names.

Terrence can also be spelt Terence (mine) or Terrance. It's a great name. :D

I second Assumpta, Concepta and anything madly religious as awful names. What about Rosarii, Faustina, and Ciuinas as more awful ones. Ambrose for a boy sounds like a dessert! I hate the name Damien too-too much like The Omen for comfort.

'Sharon' is a pretty knackery name. 'Sharon!?'........'Sharon!'

    'Chicinta' is another one. 'Chicinta!?'.......'Chicinta!'

Imagine giving your child's name - 'Cesil' - what kind of abuse would that be!?

Oh and Christina (prenounced like vagina)!

Yeah, my mother once introduced me to an old woman in the supermarket called Christina (Chris-tye-na). I straight away thought of that same V-word! I was about 18 and I had to go and pretend to be looking for bread or something, otherwise I would have laughed in the poor woman's face.

Although when it's pronounced properly, as in Christina Aguilera, it's a lovely name.

Yeah baby, you said it! :D

Although funnily enough, it's a name that doesn't work very well in the French language, hehe.

a born again christian i used to know named his two sons gideon and nethaniel

Good thing they weren't around in 1938-39, isn't it? They could have been put on a train for having names like that.

I hate when parents give their kids rhyming names:

    Donnie,Ronnie,Lonnie,Monnie,Bonnie, Connie
And then there's one kid at the end called John-Boy

    Best names are redneck ones:

    Billy-Bob, Wayne-Bob, Cletus-Bob, Bubba-Bob, Doc-Bob,Bob-Bob and Cody-Bob.

Indeed. Apart from Siobhan, Niamh, Naoise an Sinead though, most Gaelige names are pretty poor.

Assumpta, Attracta, Concepta, basically any oul one religious name. Almost somehow worse are young ones with an awful religiuos nam, I distinctly remember one girl each who was gorgeous looking going by the names Majella and Bernie  ffs, Bernie?!!? How does a parent in Ireland in the late 80s give their daughter a name that went out in the early 30s?

Best name I ever saw was in work checking a Scottish girls ID. She was born in (iirc) July or August 86, post WC Argentina v England anyway whenever it was.

First name: Maria Middle name: Donna :D:D **** me the Scots are legends :p

    so so true.

The classical names are fantastic as they actually relate to something and seem quite practical, take for example naming your children "first" "second" "third" :D For the record Aeneas is one of those rare great names as is Virgil (coincidently), Thaddaeus, Aloysius etc.
Those olde styley names are fantastic unlike those ridiculous americanisms - single syllable names that are devoid of meaning or ones that sound like powerful weapons - hunter, kreuger, lance etc. Also the first names as last names and vice versa are very very irritating.

    "Turlough" LOL:D

I used to work with a Turlough, whenever anyone would say "Turlough, ehm, that's an interesting name," he'd get all tetchy and defend it by responding
"Yeah, it means disappearing lake actually."

    Neville is also hateful name.
Brilliantly though Phil & Gary Neville (the premiership footballers,) fathers 1st name is Neville.

"Pleased to meet you, I'm Neville Neville."

Guys, some of you need to differentiate between an opinion and an insult. If a person dislikes a name and it's your name, well it's their opinion, not a dig at you. Why take it personally?
