Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Dont tell my gf this but I dont like her middle name: Boguslawa

    Eurgh!
I know a guy called Dubhaltach (you spelt it right), I think it's quite a nice name when said out loud, it just looks like a bit of a mountain on paper.

I don't like the name Barbara at all.

Used to work with a guy called Richard Long and insisted that you called him Dick. He thought it was hilarious, broke the ice big time when chatting up women. After he got married his wife started calling him Richie, but after a few pints alter-ego Dick will nearly always turn up!

Pam Beach is on company email list

anything ending with a dh, dbh, bdh, or ph... if it sounds like a 'v' then use a flipping 'v'

Siabh - is it pronounced sive or sigh-ve... confusion reigns with these ridiculous ancient irish names. How are you supposed to get on in life when meeting people and you have to spend 5 minutes explaining your name and spelling to half the room and then another 5 minutes going through a mini elocution lesson for everyone so people can address you

Cathal - english pronouce it Cackle
    Grainne - grain-knee
    Niamh - knee-have or knee-uv ??

I worked with a lad called Anas and a fella called Corneilious (sp?)
Horrible horrible names. Levi is Hebrew for Matthew I think

For girls names, the hate list includes:
Barbara , Philomena , Beatrice , Penny , Concepta (Connie or Septa) ,
    Assumpta , Loretta , Goretti , Davina , Alexis ...

Why would anyone pronounce it knee-have?? Depending on your accent you're going to say Neev, Nee-uv, or Nee-av. None of which anyone's going to correct you on unless they're a headwrecking b*tch as there's not all that much difference between them. Everyone in Ireland know the name and the spelling, you only run into difficulty with people who aren't Irish.

The name Schira is so disgusting it makes my skin crawl

Here's a challenge: give me an example of someone called Enda who isn't - or who hasn't at least one parent from - west of the Shannon!

There are so many names I hate. Mostly the new age ones with parents trying to be unique (which is why I felt extremely happy when my friend told me she is teaching two Skyler's this year). A couple names which I don't hate, but I'm getting sick of hearing are Ashley and Kayley (and all their spelling variations).

And because my best friend is named Todd, I love referring to this clip whenever I can (I also hate pretty much every name mentioned as well)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 77 ✭✭Spaceman Spiff

Try living abroad in a non-english speaking country with a very Irish name...you'll get to hate it after a while

I work turfcare at a golfcourse and we often drop by the halfway house to see if we can get a free snack (they have amazing banana bread). One day the girl's nametag said 'Aoife'. Upon saying 'Hi ee-fa' she had a look of amazement and told me I was the first Canadian who's ever pronounced her name correctly.

Having loads of cousins with Irish names never paid off so much.
