The previous owner never changed the timing belt!

I got it from my step-dads friend who he usually gets his cars from. (Hence the dull part) but the cheapest same spec 323 I could find on the internet today was 3,500 , so I figured it was a good deal and if i didnt like the car that much then I could always just put it on carzone or cbg for about 3000 anyway.
I am a bit worried about looking like a 37 year old father of 3 in the suburbs tho:)

no offence intended to anyone who is in thier 30's lives in the suburbs or has kids.

Whats wrong with the timing belt? are they bad in Mazda's? the car is nct'd and taxed till next year aswell.

I would've gone for the 1.5 version and got traction control, electric sunroof, electric windows, and better interior.. but that's just me.

    the 1.3 is bog basic.

    good reliable car though,

    BTW, how is a 00 car NCT'd till 09? (unless it's 12/08?)

when I asked about the tax and nct my step-dad said it was taxed and nct'd till next year. he was in monahan looking at cars and phoned me to let me know about the mazda ( so I was going on what he told me when I decided to buy it) its being brought down to me next week (im in dublin city) as I wont have the money to get it insured till then. So I havent had a chance to ask all the questions about it properly yet , the only reason I bought it over the phone is because he brought it for a test drive and looked over it then rang me. I trust his judgement (for the most part) as he's had loads of cars himself and obviously knows more than me about them. I'm still gonna get a mechanic to look at the car when it gets to dublin tho.
I plan to ask him today : has the timing belt been changed, what date exactly is on the tax and nct, has it got service history/log book /manual etc... is there anything else I should ask?

Thanks for the help to anyone thats answered my posts, sorry if I'm being annoying due to my lack of experience/knowledge .

That's hilarious that you wrote that. Bought a 1.6 GLX yesterday.

That deal above is class and if I'd have seen it I would have jumped it. They are fairly dull cars but come on... they go forever and they are better than my last monster... 97 1.4 Ford Escort L

You're better off with the GLX spec and a proper engine anyway!
