Hello, I was reading the other thread about brazilian/ hollywood waxing before... as I was curious. So I decided to get everything in that area waxed. I had never done so before and read up about it etc. I heard hot waxing was supposed to be less painful. So I saw an ad for a place that 'specializes in brazilian/ hollywood waxing etc' . The add said they use hot wax. I made an appointment via email.. I asked a few questions, but they never answered them. I went ahead anyway. I know I should have probably rang them up and asked them alot more, but I thought that they seemed ok.

So when I was there... a bit nervous etc, with my jeans off.. I asked 'so it's hot wax you use right?'. And the woman said, no it was strip waxing. I could have (and should have) walked out then, but I thought as I'd gotten this far I might as well keep going. + also... she had a qualification in it too.

It was fairly painful.. but not as bad as I thought. But where she pulled out some hair was bleeding+ I asked is that 'normal' and she said it was (I felt like I was being butchered!). + She was unable to get rid of a tiny clump of hair... she went over it about 4 times+ said that it would 'disolve' in the bath. I hope so, but I doubt it.

But the main thing is... this was yesterday+ there was just redness etc... but today, there's all tiny white spots after appearing. It looks SOOOO hidious. I feel hidious because of it.

I was wondering, has this happened to anyone else? or if any one specializes in waxing... is this the norm?. I don't know what to do .I've been going out with my bf for a little while+ we're going to sleep together for the first time at the weekend. Should I exfoliate? AHHH. Thanks for any advice.

Ahh well I suppose I can help :p Don't ask how I know.
But from what your have described yes that it perfectly normal to have the little white dots across where you got waxed. Its just your skins natural reaction, prob where the folicals of your hairs were pulled. If they don't go down by tomorrow evening then I'd maybe ask a professional (maybe one on the board).

DON'T exfoliate or use creams and try to have warm showers rather than hot ones. as otherwise this will irritate the skin. Wear "big granny knickers" for the next 2 days and relax, let your shin breath and recover you will be fine by the weekend. About the clump of hair, hmmmmm I doubt that will "dissolve"

Ok well i'm no waxing specialist but i do get it done myself and it sounds like u went through a horrible exp to be honest! to my knowledge hair just doesn't disolve in the bath!! So don't go back there again anyway! I have a brill beautician (pm me if u want it!!) who does it in 5 mins & u don't feel violated!!
But anyway in my exp its usually red and tender for the 1st day or so i wouldnt exfoliate as that'll just make it worse by stimulating the blood flow maybe just put some cream on it? It might help calm it down? But as i said i'm no beautician thats just what i would do!!
I hope it gets better in time 4 ur big night!!

That place sounds awful. Do not under any circumstances go back there. (or anywhere for that matter that uses strip wax over hot wax)

If you are in Dublin go to Brazilia. http://www.brazilia.ie/

First of all, Do not have a shower, exfoliate, or put anything on the area for 24hrs.

Second of all, it's normal for the area to be tender. I would have red dots for about 2days after. After the 24hrs has passed gently exfoliate the area.

If things don't improve then call up another beautician in your area.

I do not want to offend, but please so not take only the advice of people on the internet. Not that you guys don't know what you are talking about. I would ring the place you got it done and explain to them. Did the therapist give you any aftercare advice. Ring them and let them know that you are not happy and if you are still tender and not happy with how it looks or feel, seek advise from a professional.

So how long does leg & bikini line hair have to be when you're getting waxed? And if you have dry sensitive skin should you avoid it?

Another vote here for Brazilia, I've had plenty of bikini waxes in the past but since the first time I went to Brazilia I would never go anywhere else again. Waayy less painful and the staff are all professionals who really know what they're doing

OP I would ring up the salon and tell them what you told us here. Doesn't sound like they have done a great job..

    Hi,

Another Brazilia devotee here. And you can cash in points for Pigsback.ie to get vouchers for the palce too if you find it a little expensive!.

I guess it's too late to give advice or anything at this point.

I hope it's all worked out for you by now.
    Have a fun weekend!

What Jules says. Call them up or better yet go in and see them. Tell them you're not happy with their service and ask their advice.

That said this is your first wax so your skin was likely to be extremely sensitive and more likely to react badly. Especially to a strip wax. But you should definitely let the place know that you're unhappy.

The first time is ALWAYS the worst, but you definietly had a bad therapist.
Brazilia is great, and so is :DWhetstones:D on South Anne St 01-6724727. Ask for Sinead or Sarah - they are both fabulous waxers, really quick and do a very neat job.

I don't think it's fair to say she had a bad therapist as none of us were there and we are only getting one side of the story.

OP I trained and qualified as a beauty therapist last year and had an additional course in 'Advanced Waxing' which included everything 'down below'. We were trained to use strip wax for a full wax (some call it Brazilian, some call it Hollywood so I'll call it full just so you know what I mean).

If you are getting underarms or bikini area done then generally a hot wax is used as these are called terminal hairs and are 'tougher' to remove ~ both waxes will do this job but hot wax is more efficient.

However, if you are getting a full wax then strip is recommended just because of the technique. If you think about it, when you hot wax, you need to have a section that can be used as a kind of handle to lift and then pull. But how can you do this when you need to go in and out of crevices and around 'corners' as you do when Brazillian/Hollywood waxing.

Maybe the therapist wasn't very experienced in this procedure and somewhere that does specialise in it would suit better.

It is normal for skin to have blood spots when being waxed. And the area will possible feel raised (white spots) afterwards. I would hope that you were told no hot baths/showers, no perfumed products and no tight clothing for 24/48 hours after the waxing. You can exfoliate but not until 48 hours after.

    HTH
