I don't know all the details as I only managed to get a quick glance at the Fingal Independent today but apparently there'll be a one way system in the town for the next few weeks due to work happening close to George's Square. I think it's starting on Saturday but I'm not 100%.

I had a look at the Fingal Indo's website but it doesn't appear to have been updated yet. If anyone knows anything more please share! :)

In connection with the Balbriggan Village Urban Renewal Scheme, which was approved by the County Council in May 2006 the following works will be undertaken in the town of Balbriggan:-

    • Upgrading of the existing kerbs, footpaths, street furniture and public lighting over a length of approximately 800 metres from Cronin’s Pharmacy along Dublin Street, Bridge Street and Drogheda Street (to the Convent Lane junction).
    • The new paving will be similar in colour and character to the existing granite paving at George’s Square. The new granite kerbs will be of a similar character to those at George’s Square but of a charcoal grey colour.
    • New street furniture and lamp standards will be of stainless steel to match the existing street furniture on George’s Square.
    • Undergrounding of overhead services(ESB/Eircom).

The foregoing works will be undertaken in 9 phases in 2008 and each phase will take approximately 4-6 weeks to complete. The Drawing showing the phases in the scheme are attached below this notice. Work has commenced on Phase 1, at George’s Square. Also, details of the Scheme and Drawings showing the phases are on display in the Town Hall in Balbriggan while the works are in progress.

During the carrying out of the works, traffic management measures will be put in place in order that traffic disruption is kept to a minimum. These measures will involve one-way traffic systems on various streets as follows:

    1. Georges Square from High Street/Hampton Street to Bridge Street.
    2. Drogheda Street northwards
    3. Chapel Street (R122)(also known locally as The Naul Road) one-way for traffic travelling eastwards from Harry Reynolds Road to Drogheda Street.
    4. Other streets not yet determined

The foregoing traffic management measures will involve motorists having to travel alternative routes in this area. Appropriate signposting will be put in place and local access will be maintained at all times. Before each phase of work commences, the householders on the street where the works are being carried out will be informed by way of a leaflet drop which will give details of the proposed works and other relevant details.

If members of the public have any concerns in relation to the work being undertaken in the area of their house/premises, Fingal County Council can be contacted on 01-890 5980 during office hours. For any queries of an urgent nature which may arise after office hours while works are in progress, Fingal County Council can be contacted on the emergency number 01-873 1415.

Fingal County Council regrets any inconvenience caused in relation to this matter and we would ask you for your co-operation and understanding during the works.
