Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Who else is into Jungle/D&B then?

Always liked it particularly Jump up/hardstep jungle from 94 to 96, sort of lost interest over the last few years but been recently, listening to some and there are some quality new releases this being the pick of them, jump up style, cracking tune.

I am a huge fan of some of the lighter stuff. LTJ Bukem, Makoto and alot of the Hospital stuff, actually nearly everything that they release. High Contrast is one of the best producers ever,

"shockout" is a roller and half all right! if you like the old school ness of it then you should check out the release Naphta just had on Lightless Recordings

    http://www.chemical-records.co.uk/sc/servlet/Info?Track=LIGHTLESS003

love my dnb, all strands and flavours of it, i play pretty much right across the board from the smoother bits by the likes of calibre (pretty much untouchable at teh lighter style imo - but i never rated high contrast at all) to the breakier trippier purist sounding stuff all the way to the big bashy dancefloor tunes by the like of a-sides, digital, theory etc

not too into my jumpup these days, think that whole corner of teh scene is in bad need of some fresh ideas to be honest...

loads of really good tunes around these days; if you haven't been paying attention to dnb in a while you should check out the marcus intallex fabric live cd - it's very very good and there's a good few irish tunes on it as well from teh likes of zero tolerance and calibre

currently i'm all about the likes of: breakage, amit, commix, calibre, seba, M.I.S.T. d:bridge, zyon base, fracture and neptune, survival, break, lynx, klute, paradox and a few others...

for those of you who dig the breakier amospheric sounds as well as teh deeper soulful stuff you should check the link in my sig; there's a mix i did on there toshowcase those sort of sounds, if you ever used to be into bukem and the likes it should be right up your alley

I had been meaning to buy Modus Operandi by Photek for a long time now and saw it there last week in Virgin (or whatever it's called now) for 9 euro (anyone know how do the euro sign on a Mac? ) so couldn't say no. Have to say it really is a brilliant album and I can't believe I have left it so long to get it!

    http://www.discogs.com/release/10384

Any recommendations for other albums to check out based on my loving Modus Operandi? :pac: - I love that smilie :D :pac:

Good man!!! one of the best albums of all time imo!

It sort of depends what you like best about it i guess... Personally, i reckon the best "albums" in dnb in recent years have been the following:

Leon Switch and Kryptic Minds - "Lost All Faith" - Defcom

Breakage - "This Too Shall Pass" - Bassbin

    Fanu - "Lightless" - Lightless

Klute - "No one's Listening Anymore" - Commerical Suicide

Amit - "The Never Ending" - Commercial Suicide

Artists you should check out on the basis of liking Modus Operandi -

Fanu - Finnish beatsmith, makes really intricate deep soulful stuff that stillhas a heaviness to it that's entirely generated by his drums... Rich deep dark melodic atmospheric stuff! If you buy Vinyl, then you could do a lot worse than checking out his recent 12" on Darkestral Ice - "Ninja Chicks" is pure mid nineties Photek but a bit less minimal

Kryptic Minds and Leon Switch - Avoid their early stuff; since the "Lost All Faith" album though they've been moving well away from their former hard-as-nails sound and they've been doing some deeper stuff that takes influences from classical music... Check them out they're pretty good - "Minor 9" was one of my picks for 2007

    Labels you should check out:

Subtle Audio - Straight out of Limerick, with an international roster of producers, one of the few labels consciously trying to keep that mid nineties experimentalism alive within the context of dancefloor dnb... They have a mix cd and compilation with tunes drawn from the vinyl back catalogue dropping in May sometime

Outsider / Esoteric / Paradox Music / Arctic Music - all owned by the same guy, Paradox is the current champion drum programmer.. There's a cd compilation of the Outsider releases so far on the way soon, and you can get a lot of the tunes on www.digitaltunes.net

Bassbin / Breakin' - Check www.abunchofcuts.com for audio

oh and i shouldn't even need to mention it - but check the link in my sig for a mix i did - lots of drum focussed atmospherics in there..

    also -

www.virb.com/reachdrumandbass has audio of some of the international guests we've had over to play for us this past year - have a gander at the FLIGHT set and the SABRE set - both are pretty damn good

most of the stuff i've mentioned is easy enough to find on mp3 or cd

vinyl might be a little bit trickier, although www.chemical-records.co.uk is the place to go to buy new dnb

you should check out the mix forum at www.subvertcentral.com -> it's basically where people who loved old photek and despise his recent stuff go to complain about it, and most of the other people i've mentioned in this thread so far post on there too

Yes,if you like Photek's stuff check out klute(he does some nice drum n bass/dark jungle tracks and kinda errie drum n bass) like Photek.

I noticed photek does kinda unusual off the "beaten track" stuff on Modus Operandi, and klute does this also.

Check out roni size's album called "New forms" youll like New Forms if you liked Modus Op.

    hmmm,what else?

Check out stuff by j majik (some of the stuff he produced in the nineties),its really good stuff.

look for an album called :

    Metal headz presents:
PLATINUM BREAKS (i think there is a number 1 and a number 2 volume) its got loads of artists on it all on "Metal Heads")

Its a hard record to find(double disc set)... (you may have to get it online)

Thanks again. I noticed a couple of other Photek albums the other day in HMV Grafton St, was Modus Operandi a single masterpiece or are the others worth getting?

    Klute is the MAN

    ;)

also - AVOID the new photek album like a bad dose of bad aids.

also - it's scientific fact that j majik and roni size, along with pretty much all of the "original" heads all went completely off the boil in the late nineties... j majik now makes horrid soulless rubbish; adam f is in a metal band, and roni size and crew went a bit **** around 2000

for newer stuff, check out "Daylightless" by Fanu if you like that classic mid 90's strings and live sounding breakbeats vibe

also - ASC, Seba, Paradox, D:Bridge, Martsman, Amit, Martyn, Equinox, Breakage, Leon Switch + Kryptic Minds, Fracture and Neptune, Macc, Naibu, Zyon Base

Here's my top ten tunes for this month, most of them are out soon ish if not already:::

    alix perez + lynx - allegiance - soul:r

naibu - urban sprawl - creative source

resound - rise like the sun - secret operations

klute - halloween - commercial suicide

lxc - back on trip (hi-lar remix) - offshore

amit - propaganda - commercial suicide

martsman - bluetone - warm communications

zyon base - simple man - CDR

naibu + pacific - arctic - (not sure what the label is yet)

breakage - rebel creations - critical

DJ Hype & Dillinger @ tivoli this saturday

    anyone going?

I was there. Was a good gig. Just enough people for the atmos to be good, not to many that taking to the dancefloor was an elbow dodging session.

Tivoli makes a good venue, first time i have been there in quite some time. Staff were very sound as well.

Hype was good, played some great tunes but at the end it kind of felt like he was playing the same tracks. Not sure but think he may have gotten stuck with a longer set than he had been previously told or prepared for. If he was out there longer than planned then he did good job of hiding it, if not then it was a little bit lazy. I'm not sure, either way it didn't really affect my enjoyment of his set in any negative way.

Dillinja was a fantastic set. Some awesome stomp along D and B. Proper crowd freakout here.

One thing i did notice and quite like was that out of the last 3 gigs i have been to (Mr. Scruff, DJ Shadow and Cut Chemist and Hype and Dillinja ) that all three of them have worked DubStep into their set somewhere. Nice.
