Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

...And a new form of reviewing was born

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 17,371 ✭✭✭✭Zillah

    Yahtzee likes porn.

Now that we're done rhyming, did anyone else find it a very boring review? My head actually sank when I realised he was using another gimic. Last week it was a bloody stupid Irish accent, this week a Limerick.

Is it so much to ask for a competent review phrased in a witty manner?

So go read the gazillion other game sites that do bog standard "competent" reviews. Dunno about you, but I make my weekly trip to Yahtzee's corner for his comedy ranting. He's a critic, not a reviewer.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 19,976 ✭✭✭✭humanji

I think it was an excellent review. As he said himself, the game offers pretty much nothing new and isn't even that good. Since the game isn't particularly entertaining, he made the review entertaining instead.

His reviews are becoming fairly generic now, anyway. It's pretty much the same thing over and over again. At least he tried to mix it up a little this week.

And I have to say I was pretty impressed how he made a fairly accurate review in limerick form. I was half expecting him to run out of rhymes halfway and give up, but he made it all the way through.

really good review :D was a bit disappointed though as I was expecting Batman

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,403 ✭✭✭passive

I had similar thoughts about the gimickyness, but it was still really awesome... Also, after I came across the transcript for the Irish part of the last one, I found out

"I'm also negotiating appearances... at GenConOz in Brisbane."

Teehee... That's next week... I'm in Brisbane... :D

The fact that Wolfenstein was so bland Yahtzee had to reply on the rhyming gimmick was a warning sign for me. It was pretty funny but not of the same quality as his other reviews.

Nana, nana, nana, nana; nana, nana, nana, nana - Batman!

    No?
He rhetorically asked if it was just a bunch of flickery lights on a wall.

I liked how he said 'You didn't come here to find out why a game is good. You've heard that already.'

Kind of like what we were saying in this thread!.

Only ever played Guitar Hero once or twice, found it an utterly pointless & boring exercise; so I can't exactly empathise with Yahtzee's position on the series :)

Its not meant to be excercise, its meant to be fun

It also increases in fun with alcohol and friends.

    GH/RB = Great
    GH/RB + Friends = Excellent
    GH/RB + Friends + Alcohol = Partaayyyy

And as for this week..he picked a rubbish game to review

It's a pattern matching game, I grew out of that after playing Simon Says years ago :p

Ha Ha, harsh. My copy is in the post anyway but still look forward to it. Seems like the perfect short play came to me when you don't have time to invest in a longer playing spell.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 19,976 ✭✭✭✭humanji

I'm actually curious to play this now. Must be a case of reverse psychology (or as I call it, stupidity).

Pretty damning.... I hope the lead designer is nicknamed Pillock because of it.
Names like that stick, you know.

    Brutal Legend
    He didn't like it
    (shock!)
I probably agree with him, actually. Not really enjoying this game.

    Loved the spiderman joke.

I'm amazed EA had the ingenuity and creativity to do something like this.

Look forward to being rickrolled from: a lunchbox, a pack of smokes, ham sandwhiches, toolboxes, tiolet roll.

I also heard the Box 2010 will be out for the PS3, 360, PC, DS, PSP, Wii and Atari Jaguar.

That's a great prank. I haven't watched the last few reviews and I won't bother watching this one. More because I really enjoy Brutal Legend than anything else.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,947 ✭✭✭rizzla

Nice joke, but Dante's Inferno will probably be banned in Aus.

  • Moderators Posts: 8,678 ✭✭✭D4RK ONION

I'm sure the ability to commit babbicide wont cause the very open minded Australian censor board to ban it

Yahtzee reviews Washington DC. Stick to the reviews, dude. It might get funny after the 2 minute mark, but I'll never know because I closed my browser out of boredom.

    Yikes... that's pretty rubbish.

That was about as funny as a back street abortion

  • Moderators, Arts Moderators Posts: 10,518 Mod ✭✭✭✭5uspect

    oh dear...

    Wait wait wait ...

why do all the cartoon reviews air uncensored, gratuitous swearing, tasteless analogies and everything, yet within 30 seconds of the video his "f*ck you" gets bleeped?

I wouldn't know if this is all throughout the thing either because like you guys, I got stupendously bored & had what I always presumed, confirmed: Yahtzee needs a script. He can't do ad-lib & just comes across as a twonk (more so!)

I think the guy must think if we like his reviews we actually like him. You'd think he would plan ahead for these things and have some "retro reviews" pre recorded to air when he's away on his hols

He looks (and yes I appreciate the ironing) quite nerdy in RL :P

this episode reminded me of the one about web comics (specifically ctrl-alt-del) and just how right he was.

again, right about everything. including Joss Whedon sucking absolute ass

yeah but... its terrible compared to what he was doing. there was a slight dip a few months ago but was recently back on form, but this is just a new low imo

"If you were expecting Zero Punctuation" this week... then F**k You."

Yeah we know he always try his hardest to be cool but saying that just makes him look like a knob.

he'll prob take the piss out of himself for it next week

    Awful alright.

Very nerdy, and skinny, and dity and hairy.

He just looks like he smells.

He looks like a gamer allright, a board-gamer.

    *ducks and covers*

Not a peep about last weeks humourless abomination.

    This week, Uncharted 2.

He is just nitpicking because people expect him to. The "flaws" he finds with this game are ridiculous (apart from the gluey walls one, that's annoying).

  • Banned (with Prison Access) Posts: 6,315 ✭✭✭Jazzy

    i liked it.

but thats because he is never wrong
