While Pataks pastes are widely available in most supermarkets, they generally stock the big sellers only - e.g. balti, korma, rogan josh.

If you can't get it in your local supermarket try the asian supermarkets as they would be more likely to stock a wider range of Pataks products.

That depends on where you are. Are you in Dublin?

Maybe it's time for an Asian Store/market/emporium sticky with addresses and such. These kind of questions come up a lot.

I wouldn't mind putting up a sticky. Have a look at the 2 stickies in Coffee and Tea and decide what type of format ye want. The F&D main page has a 'Food and Drink web resources' thread too.

I'd be inclined to have it for specialist foods not just asian though.

OP - I was thinking that with biryani being such a dry dish that Pataks may not actually do a paste for it. I've checked their website & - lo & behold - there's no Biryani paste mentioned.

If you do fancy making a biryani, but need a little 'help' - try Shan's spice mixes. They have them in most 'Indian' supermarkets & are basically ready-ground spices in the right quantities for various curry dishes.

Assuming that you're in Dublin - there are 2 Indian/Bangladeshi shops next to each other in the lane between Harcourt Road & South Richmond Street. Last time I was there one of them had a decent selection of Pataks products & they also do a wide range of Shan's spice mixes.

That's odd, I'm pretty sure they used to .. had a jar myself once.

In fact if you Google "pataks biryani" you get loads of hits, including this one ...

I thought that they used to do a biryani pack - rice and the paste. Maybe I'm mixing it up with some other brand.

Either way I'd recommend checking out the Asian supermarket on Drury street, the farthest aisle from the entrance has lots of Indian ingredients.

    I stand corrected. Thanks.
Strange that it isn't on their own site though.

yes i searched the "pataks website" and even went to the trouble of ringing them in the u.k.
the answer i got was that not all products are mentioned on the website but they do have it as they confirmed but not very popular i think. I have bought and used it before and love it! I regularly use the Shan mixes but i have to say i prefer biryani wet and i find the shan mixes not great for it. il check dury street, thanks. this type of biryani is a family respie and unsual. nothing ud buy in a resturant! its oven cooked like a casserole!! mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm!!:D

If they don't have it in the Asian Market on Drury Street, try the Asian Food Company on Mary Street. They usually have a good selection of Patak's pastes.

I live in Bray, and there's nowhere I can think of. I assume you've tried Tesco's. There aren't really any Asian shops in Bray that I know of apart from a Chinese one in Albert Walk, the street (well, alleyway really) that runs parallel to the sea front from outside the Dart Station near the chipper there. I doubt they'd have it though.

Looks like you'll have to journey into the big smoke after all.

Anyone know where I can get Tandoori paste? Tried 5 shops today and none had any stock...Tesco, SuperValu, Aldi, Dunnes + 1 more small shop.

Seems like all these shops were low on all Pataks products.
