Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

I think I am getting a bit out of touch with the youth of today...

Means they like My Chemical Romance and the like, have hair coming down over their face (boys & girls have same style) often straightened highlighted or coloured, tight jeans, black clothes (to an extent)...

    🤪

I once heard someone answer that same question by saying that it was a petrol station. The person got really confused and couldn't figure out why teenagers were calling themselves emo.

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,151 ✭✭✭beanyb

They also like to think that they're really depressed. And look down on happy people. That's where the emotional bit comes from.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 34,111 ✭✭✭✭listermint

    its a petrol station:rolleyes:;)

I'm not sure but i think its something to do with being a homosexual and a cranky bítch at the same time. Intricate balancing act IMHO

Ah the mighty emo, my cousin is one apparently, she likes all these brutal rock bands, taken back sunday, my chemical romance, and a few other tack-tastic ones!

Maybe im just getting old but most of that kind of rock music is far more generic than the grunge/indie music I listened to (and still do) in my day.....

Had to laugh though(and take a pic and send it to said cousin!)- I was in Kealys pub beside the Airport the other day and someone wrote on the toilet door

"I wish my lawn was an emo so it would cut itself" - Oh how I laughed, brilliant...

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 505 ✭✭✭briantwin

    Emo......Hahaha
Dont worry you're not out of touch even the Emos dont know what it means although i think it has something to do with being appathetic, hating your parents and listening to sh*te music (My Chemical Romance) whilst growing your fringe and gelling it down over half of your face. Also you might notice that they are all striving for individuality by dressing the exact same (skinny jeans, checkered print runners and multiple studded belts). If you want to observe the movements of these curious creatures you could go to Fibbers tonight or just head to Central Bank and watch the herd around the place.

Ok, I'm far from an emo, goth etc however, i am familiar with both Emo and Samaratians and didn't like your assumption of emo = sucide!
Anyways... got our wires crossed.. You confirmed what you meant so i understand now.

They're kinda like the goth kids of about ten or fifteen years ago, but instead of bitching about how horrible society is and that life is full of misery and pain or what-not, they complain about no-one understanding them and their complex individuality which they assert by joining in the latest fad.

The goths had cooler clothes though

Goth music was a hell of a lot better as well... Sisters of Mercy, Bauhaus, that sort of thing. ;)

Someone correct me here but I'm sure I heard once that the original emos were cure fans. This can't be true surley. How can you put the likes of The Cure and My chemical romance in the same category. The first time I heard My C R I thought it was busted. seriously. They are so sh**te

"You scored as a Goth" :)

I agree with Karl - 80's/90's goth music is so much better than emo pop crap.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9,031 ✭✭✭Lockstep

    I scored Rocker 45%.

I'm so hardcore, I dont fit into any of their categories:rolleyes:
Despite that, I scored 0% for emo.

    Goth kids are cool though.

    Nononono
I will not be in your talent show.

I respect actual gothic music, I think it can be very moving.

Whiny pseudo goth rubbish just annoys me.
Especially the kids who claim Green Day is goth.
Oh and the obligatory Dimmu Borgir reference so as to score cool Satan Points

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 7,129 ✭✭✭Nightwish

You cant deny that Dimmu Borgir are a fcking excellent band.

I never got into them TBH.
No problem with them, just not for me.

I just find the idea of liking them for shock value a bit silly.

What Group Are You? What Group Are You? Chav, Rocker, Skater, Emo, Goth, Trendy, Prepy Ect
    You scored as a Prepy
    You Are a preppy
    Prepy 50%
    Rocker, Mosher 35%
Chav, Townie, Rude Boy, Ned, Kev 30%
    Goth 25%
    Trendy 20%
    Emo 15%
    Skater 10%

I scored mostly goth, no surprise there since I mostly wear black, but to be honest I don't go in for the pale make-up & no intention of dying my hair black either.

    Goth - 45%
    Prepy - 20%
    Rocker, Mosher - 20%
Chav, Townie, Rude Boy, Ned, Kev - 15%
    Skater - 10%
    Emo - 0%
    Trendy - 0%

Clearly the quiz author falls under whatever catagory has the worst maths skills:
    45% + 20% + 20% + 15% + 10% = 110%
Guess I must just be that complicated that a simple 100% analogy can't explain me sufficiently! lol

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,893 ✭✭✭Davidius

    Preppy - 25%
    Goth - 15%
    Rocker/Mosher - 10%

Everything else is 0%. I don't know what Preppy is and I'm not exactly clear on what a goth is either. The last one doesn't make sense though, I don't even listen to music.

With that said the quiz confused me. Yes or No answers with 5 choices and it kept making reference to things I've never even heared of.

On topic, has somebody said 'Emu' yet? Well if they haven't: Emu.

I was equal Preppy, Trendy & Goth 45%. I thought the term 'Emo' came from Emotive Rock (the sh*te a lot of these kids listen to:rolleyes:)

A friend of mine in the US used to take photos in "emo poses." So when I was in Abbeyfeale I snapped a photo of the Emo petrol station there and e-mailed it to her, she thought it was gas (no pun intended). She pasted it on to one of her school books!

+1. One of the best examples of Black Metal out there. I do recall a recent enough thread in the music forum where myself, Mr Hungus and a few others tried to convince the masses of Dimmu's brilliance.
