    Hey,

This could be already discussed on this board so jus let me know!

I'm finishing(Hopfully) my undergraduate degree in May in UL in Computer Engineering, i was thinking of doing an MBA, perhaps on Galway. I was wondering about cost, availability etc?

Would anyone in the know, maybe who has done the course yourself, shed some light on the subject?

    Cheers,

There's a thread here that might be of help, about MBSs and MBAs

edit: or on reading your post properly, it might be no help whatsoever

An MBA is typically best taken by someone with several years experience. Typical age is 28-32 with lots of career experience.
Have a look at the Financial Times MBA rankings, click on the course pages, and see.
Take a specialist masters, then get 5 years min experience, and an MBA will be far more useful then.

The first thing you need to know about an MBA is that it is tough, very tough. Also, they are expensive. The MBA in Cambridge costs £32000 before you even open a textbook!

Now, eveyone will tell you that you can easily make this money back on completion and this is true, however, the MBA is not the license to print money that it once was. You can still earn great money but it's not as amazing as it once was.

Also, if you are working anywhere, they need to know you are taking the course as many MBA's require you to take time off work or simply have assignments that require you to put in a massive amount of hours.

I haven't started an MBA but I have researched it. All MBA's are good but only the well recognised ones will get you the job/salary of your dreams :) I don't mean this to sound like a downer but do some research before jumping into doing it. I'd second the notion of getting job experience first. Also, the high costs often mean that some employees strike a deal with their employers to cover all/half of the costs on the basis that once you complete you will continue to work for that company for X number of years.

I think the only MBA offered by NUIG at the moment is an Executive MBA - probably worth looking in to how viable this program is for you given that you are just coming out of your undergraduate degree this year.

You may need to go somewhere other than Galway if you are determined to transition right into an MBA.
