I think what we can ascertain from this painstaking piece of research is that when it comes to sex, it's a big deal for some people, it's not a big deal for other people, some people are horny all their lives, others don't become horny until later on etc. It all really depends on the individual - makes perfect sense. It's not something that should be treated in broad social terms.

I cant count the number of my friends who thought losing their virginity so young was great but a few weeks later, miraculously matured, had serious reservations about it. I mean quite upset - like they had allowed themselves to be violated in some way (when your virginity is gone so is one of lifes held secrets for most of your young days). Many do regret it when its not with somone they have true feelings for esspecially if the sex was dire (according to them).........apparently there is nothing worse then your first time being disappointing. Luckily I dont have to worry. Im still a virgin and in fact im proud of it. So many times ive been tempted and asked but somehow (despite drunkeness) managed to withstand the pressure. Im happier for it - I can gaurentee you. When I think of what I could have done and with some girls whilst drunk! Im still very young and want the circumstances to be better then simply being drunk and doing it with some girl I dont really know and that Im unlikely to maintain a relationship with. Maybe thats just me but I do feel good about it unlike others whom were so bloody eager in Secondary school - so much so they deeply reget it now and thats an understatement - one guy got a girl preggers unintentionally at the age of 16. 12 might not have been considered way out of line when people were usually dead by 35 / 40, when life was a hell of a lot harsher, and kids had to grow up a lot more quickly. Even at that, I think most societies would have considered 12 somewhat young ...

Certainly, nowadays, it is very young, even allowing that some kids mature far faster than others (I mean mentally / emotionally, rather than physically).

That said, I would see a big difference between, say, a man of 20 with all his mental faculties having sex with a 12 or 13 year old, and two kids of that age "experimenting" with one another. I wouldn't be thrilled about either scenario, but I would argue that they are very different issues.
