We use Eircom dial up at home as we can access broadband at work.

We have several e-mail addresses for the people in the house that we use via dial-up.

Now we want to use Eircom broadband at home with a new PC that we are getting.

Can we still use dial-up and the e-mail addresses that go with it on the old machine as well as broadband on the new PC or will we lose all the old dial-up e-mail accounts if we get Eircom broadband ?

( BTW I appreciate that there are many other ISPs who probably offer better value but Eircom suits the household and it is not my telephone line !)

    Thanks.

Yes you can still use your current eircom accounts, you just need to configure them with the broadband connection on the PC that you will use to access them.

If all the existing email accounts happen to be with eircom too? then there will be no need to reconfigure anything.

All you will need to do is set the connection in Internet Explorer options on the old machine to "Never Dial a Connection" & plug it into the Broadband Modem/Router as well as the new PC

If the emails are from a varied set of providers? the Incoming POP3 & Outgoing SMTP settings in some accounts will need to be tweaked.

This might be a stupid question but why would you not hook the old PC up to broadband?
It does not matter what OS it runs, all it needs is a network card, if you do not have one... get one for €15 or so... I can not see any reason to have broadband at home and still pay for dial up on an old PC.

Yes, it is all with Eircom.

Thanks to you all for the advice which is appreciated.

No Saruman, it was not a stupid question !! We just haven't got our heads around a new configuration yet !!! Point taken though.

Then it would be cheaper to pay someone to get their head around the new configuration than pay the telephone bill for dial up.
