Commerce was the original business degree which has been around since the 60s whereas business is just basically the new degree which came into action around the 80's. At least thats what i was told anyway by my career guidance teacher, but shes slightly retarded so it may be wrong:rolleyes:

Don't you automatically get your highest choice....so if you do get the points for law you'll still end up doing computers in T.CD

Aghh be careful rc my brother made that mistake. If you get points that are high enough for say your fifth choice but also high enough for your first choice YOU WILL ONLY BE OFFERED YOUR FIRST CHOICE! Good luck :)

Lol of course you're right- i dont know what i was thinking when I put that down!

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 923 ✭✭✭Chunky Monkey

Phew well at least you have it right, it's the silliest way not to get on the course you want :) Though I do think the CAO is very complicated, at least that's how I feel.

    I'm putting down two choices-
    1. Medicine in RCSI
    2. Medicine in UCD

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 109 ✭✭me2gud4u

woah there, only two choices?...........my friends and I just happened to see this post(all of us are studying medicine) and to be honest we would like to warn you that this is seriously risky. You never know what will happen with random selection and if both RCSI and UCD happen to be 570* again this year like last year and if say you get bang on 570 you might not get a place when say if you had galway down (also 570*) as your third you could get offered that instead on random selection. A friend of mine for example got 570 last yr had 1.Trinity 2.UCD 3.RCSI 4.Galway on her cao. Automatically she knew she would not get Trinty as she was a good ten below what was needed (580) and she missed out on ucd and rcsi on random selection 570* but was offered Galway (third time random selection lucky). So if you really want medicine (and everyone comes out with the same degree at the end of the day no matter where you study it) put every college down!!!good luck in the months ahead!

Haha it's alright I'm not that silly (though silly enough at times) :p I already have an offer for medicine in the UK but I'm having another (third) crack at getting a place here and those are the only two places I'd accept. I want a place in Dublin because I have a great agency job here (HCA and being the capital there are several places for me to work so always a job) and I don't want to go to Trinity.
