God this is gonna sound like a real walter question but is there a sniper unit that operates independant of the ranger snipers? So if sniping was your main interest it would be alot more atainable than trying for the rangers?

    thanks

I assume you mean PDF? You should really specify.

Anyway AFAIK the Irish Team that came 9th in Americas Top Sniper were not actually rangers. But they also were not using purpose built sniper weapons.

So in Short I dont know but I would say there would be.

I mean like most platoons (or even sections) should have a Designated Sniper/Marksman

They were 28th Infantry, and they did have specialised weapons. The sniper used an Accuracy International, and the spotter had an AUG flat-top with a long scope. They're not an independent unit per se, they're part of the infantry battalion's TOE.

The army does run a sniper course, and I don't believe you have to be in the rangers to apply.

I've heard its quite easy. Just a lot of lying down watching the world go by. :D

As far as I know and was told a PDF solider can apply for a sniper course as long as they have served at least 3 yrs in the PDF.
