I don't think this thread has been ruined. And I'd be very hesitant to call anything that goes on here on feedback "Bullying", that to me a very serious accusation, and it suggests that moderators are picking on someone solely for their own amusement, this is completely untrue. It's more a case of action and reaction.

Take this thread for example, and compare it to this thread. The outcome of these threads was solely dependant on how the op approached the subject. It also must be noted that cat pictures are used on both threads, and under different contexts, so it's hardly fair to say that they're merely used as dressed up bullying.

Don't get me wrong, I do agree with in that a lot of moderators here wouldn't tolerate the same kind of offtopicness under their watch, and I think this forum could do with some stricter moderating, but the above example threads serve to illustrate that how a person is treated here is mainly up to them, and how they choose to go about addressing a grievance here.

If that's how you see it, then I think it's time you took the blinkers off. You say it's bullying because it's a large group of people abusing a single person, but you completely leave out the question of who is the instigator in these matters.

Put it in terms of a fight outside a pub - In one situation, we have a person who wades into a large group of people kicking and punching. In the second situation, we have a large group of people who suddenly jump on someone withour provocation, and beats them up.

Those two situations are vastly different, and it's solely down to the person who instigated the violence.

If moderators (And a lot of users), are bullies, as you suggest, then why bother to help the person in this thread? There's a single "weaker" person as you put it, why not jump on them? What makes that case different, what exempts that person from the the so-called bullying? Quite simpy, if there is large scale bullying going on, then that thread should not have happened as it did, and it's outcome completely disproves your accussations.

Honestly, I think you really need to re-evaluate your position on this, and start taking into account the users who start threads here. It's a case of action and reaction.

The irony that you are sticking up for this behaviour in a thread designed to make things run better here is not lost on me.

You completely misunderstand. I am not "sticking up" for this behaviour, I'm not saying it's a good thing, it's petty tit-for-tat. this post for example, you can take that to mean that the OP is a c*nt. An eye for an eye probably makes things worse.

Maybe you missed the part where I said that I agreed with you about moderators here not tolerating the same kind of acting the ass under their own forum, or the part where I said this forum needs stricter modding? Either way, I'll say it a bit more clearer this time. This forum needs stricter modding, and in the cases of muppety where the user starts a thread to lamblast mods, it should be locked asap, and warnings given out to moderators who do respond scornfully. Basically, "Fite da powa" muppets shouldn't even be given the attention in the first place. The tit-for-tat should be addressed at both ends.

So, just because I'm refuting a situtation you mistakenly see as "Bullying", does not mean that I am defending or supporting it. Much in the same way that stating Stalin was not a 50 foot killing machine with plutonium feces is not defending or supporting him.

It's just a suggestion though, i honestly don't expect anything to change and users will still be wary about putting threads in this forum. That is the saddest part about what goes on here, the whole reason for the forum is to obtain feedback but users are unwilling to give it as they are just setting themselves up for abuse by people who should know better.
I have been on Boards for years and i would never consider starting a thread on Feedback.

It isn't just a suggestion though, it's a very loaded statement, filled with accussations.

People are only setting themselves up for abuse if they act like this, and if you want to take a dim "Us vs. them" view on the matter like you seem to be doing, I might as well ask you why you are defending people who are calling people ******s and hurling abuse without provocation? Why do you consider this an acceptable way to act?

Honestly though, it's not as black and white as that.

Fair enough. I still don't see why you'd be hesitant to post a thread on Feedback though, considering there's plenty of examples of threads where there was a useful, helpful outcome.

I wouldn't be afraid of posting in feedback if the thread is valid ziggy. I can understand why the perception is there but *usually* the thread is left alone from the scourge of cat pics if it's a genuine topic. I started one this week that stayed on topic and had a satisfactory resolution(from my point of view anyway). But I don't start feedback threads that often for fear of mass cat invasion. :)

    Excellent post ziggy.

These lot roll like they are the 6th formers in secondary school, you know the cool crowd.

I'll say one thing, this cat malarkey is beyond stupidity.

I know if I posted such irrelevance on forums i'd get slapped with a ban.

It isn't about a "weaker" person - its about a weak argument or the usual "mods on a power trip/mods are nazis/mods are bullies" attitude that tends to incite people to post cat pics.

I am a relative noob when it comes to modding, but within a week of becoming a Mod I had at least one member pm'ing me calling me every name under the sun. Mods should tolerate this it seems, because to ban or even warn someone is a "mod on a power trip". Isn't it bullying someone when you send them a PM, abusing them and calling them names?

Course it is. But Mod's don't get bullied or harrassed - we're all power mad control freak bullies

Karl has already said exactly what I wanted to say here, he just does it better :)

The problem is, a lot of the time in Feedback, the threads are the usual "ZOMG why am I banned, mods are bastards" etc crap. Perhaps people are sick of the same old whinging and moaning about the same old crap over and over, so they post the same old cat pics. It isn't bullying. I wouldn't even call it "mob mentality". It's an internet in-joke, and it certainly isn't exclusive to this site.

I think you completely miss Embee's point here. I didn't read that as "They started it", but as a response to your accussations of bullying, and refuting that by pointing out how regularly the moderators are subject to abuse.

And I do sympathise with her, because not only is it an extremely thankless job, but sweeping accusations of corruption, cliques and now supposedly modators are a big mob of bullies, going around picking on innocent, weaker people. The reality of the situation couldn't be further from that hogwash, because not only is moderating a very taxing and thankless job, but the people doing it aren't getting 1 cent for it, they're taking the time to do it for free, and that's because they like boards, they like the community, they're making sure everything works well and clean up the spam. A lot of the time, all they get to show for it, is torrents of abuse.

Not only that, but some of this extends to the users who support the mods here, getting called wannabe mods, saying they're sucking up, and getting some of the same abuse.

There's a very negative and nasty portion of users here, and my main problem with moderators even responding to them, being that cat pics, or returned abuse, is the fact that those moderators are giving these idiots the very attention they want. You want to hurl abuse at moderators? You shouldn't even be given a platform or voice here to do so.

I'm against "fight the powah" types. I'm against mob mentality cat-pic posting nonsense in response to it. Two wrongs don't make a right.
double negative = positive, yes, secondary school maths still with me. :D

ok, cats, its an internet joke, you either like em or you dont.
and its usually (and rightly so) topics like "im a troll you banned, youre all nerdy twats" that deserve them.

now,you may think i just lurk around waiting for cat pix opportunities, but when theres a serious thread ( http://www.boards.ie/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=2055221112 ) i wont use them, theres a time and a place for pussy.

I dont know what type of humour you lot share when you find cats funny, something along the lines of daire obrain i would hesitate to guess...

That's a bad attempt at Dara O'Brien tbh. I prefer the cat pics to the owl but it's all a matter of preference. As I said already you can ignore them.

Wasnt he a porn star? Star of movies such as "Lodza Brain" "Enter the Brain" & the box office hot "Here cums the brain"

Humor is a very individual thing.

    Some have it

    Others dont.
