    Hi All,
Just thinking here if we could vote to change the name of the Recording/Pro Audio forum to the Thomann and Music Store Forum? Considering the amount of regular linking from here to there.
Actually, I'm just being smart here, but since a lifetime ban from the Good Dr. Cloud's forums is presented to some poor sod who posts a bit of kit for sale, it seems a bit odd that posting of a direct link to a product who's purchase is only a couple of clicks away is alright.
Come to think of it, maybe a members area here, with a used gear for sale thread would be a plan. Would be a lot handier then sticking something up on the bay.

The general rule on boards.ie is that all buying/selling takes place on www.adverts.ie, our sister site. On-thread selling/spamming has always been very much frowned upon, although you are free to create a link in your signature to any item you are selling on adverts.ie. A dedicated buying/selling area for our forum members is a decent idea but it would defeat the purpose of adverts.ie. I'd suggest you take a look at the Musical Equipment For Sale on adverts if you haven't seen it already, there's usually a decent bit of gear for sale there.

As for all the Thomann linking, I guess its just laziness quite often ;) I'm sure people are in no-way endorsing Thomann over other retailers.

maybe OT but wasn't there a plan to change the name of this forum a while back?

Yes, I put in a request with the admins but it must have been overlooked. I'll give it a quick bump, now that you've reminded me...

If somebody asks for a product recommendation, it's just handy to link to Thomann so that the person can get a quick idea of pricing. Manufacturer sites never have prices and either do most of the local dealers who have sites. It's not an endorsment of Thomann.

I don't think a specific pro-audio buy/sell would work here either. The Music Equipment section of adverts.ie is always active and busy, you'd just find people posting in the pro-audio buy/sell and adverts.ie, which would defeat the purpose really.

Of course I'd have NO opinion on this subject......

Just to say I'd like to invite you all to a hands on gear demo in Westland next Monday 28th so you can listen/test the gear yourself and quiz the lads that make it and sell it..... featuring SSL X-Logic and PMC monitors.

Mr. T won't give ya a 3 year guarantee with that kind of service!!

So Paul, is that a 3 year gaurantee on commercially used products or is that just for the bedroom studio heads?

    To get back on topic.....

I think that alot of the people who link to Thomann don't see beyond it. The funny thing is that sometimes it's the cheapest, but far from always by any stretch of the imagination.

The world of the bedroom audio enthusiast is an absolute mine field of marketing and emperor's-new-clothes-ism. But alot of the popele who get absorbed in Tommann like others do porn will grow out of it and start to want gear that sounds good because it just does, NOT beacuse it was some valve-like-dynamic-warm-giving-analouge modelling digital super toy on the front of the hotdeals booklet that was €999 last year and is now €79.99 including a free f**king T-Bone stand and sticker kit.

But as I've said round here before, the people who are now buying gear because it has nice lights will one day be the guys making no. 1 records. You gotta start somewhere. When I started that meant a few SM58 and a cassette 4 track in a shed with real instruments. These days that place seems to be with a PC and gear that LOOKS like it could be doing something great. And Thommann speads that stuff out in front of you like the Sunday Sport does with glamour girls, ticking all the boxes and pulling in your interest but cheap and nasty when you open it up at home.

    Rant over.

I like what you say, every burger has to start out somewhere. However, Flashy lights and yellow testicles don't bring in more customers. People like to work with nice people. I heard a story from a girl who was recording in a proper recording studio (not a home rat studio) and the engineer was a total beef burger. She REALLY didn't enjoy her burger working with that engineer. One day I will have my own bar B q deluxe audio recording gear but in the meantime I have to just try and make the best burger without the ketchup .
