    Hi guys,
I had one of these installed in my new build early last year ...

    http://www.idealboilers.com/classic_he.html

The last week or two it has started to make strange noises !!
It fires up and cuts out fine as heat is required but during
operation there is a howling noise which starts and stops
thru the day ... There is also a flooding noise every so often ...
Thought the howling was wind blowing across the ext. vent
but when I switch off boiler, no noise at all, on a calm day ...
The boiler runs 4 rads upstairs and UFH downstairs ...

    Anyone had this before ??

I have no experience of these, but I would think that the "flooding noise" is air in the water rushing through the boiler.
The howling sound is likely water that is trapped in some small area of the boiler, and is boiling because it is not circulating.
It could also be condensation boiling in the boiler. See the mention in the brochure of "the optional Ideal condensate pump kit."

    Could be completely wrong :D

    Thanks for that JamesM ...
The pressure guage was at 0 so there was air in the system ...
I topped it up to 1.5 and 'bingo', all quiet now ...

    Cheers ...

That's great ! If there was a serious lack of water in the boiler, you could get boiling which would account for the howling noise.

Hi guys ... Back again with the same problem ...
Same noises so I have to top up the boiler every 4 - 5 days to keep it quiet
The guage still drops to 0 ...
I hope to god there is'nt a leak in the UFH !!
The rads upstairs are never used so I just have a lever valve in the hotpress to turn them on ...
Any ideas what I should try next ?

    Salem,

You probably have a leak, however it may be a pinhole leak in the heat exchanger of the boiler itself and not the ufh pipe work. The water leaking could be vaporising with the heat from the boiler. You should get it checked out.

    Thanks vertical ...
Removed the access panel to the UFH manifild and there she was ... One of the connections on the manifold which was supplied with the UFH kit just needed a half turn ...
What a relief ... All quite again ...
