. For some applications it was as simple as no date of birth or no job experience included, and with so many applicants we have to resign ourselves to cutting some people who failed to provided basic information. If you want a detailed account of your feedback just contact us.

Just FYI, you shouldn't be discounting people because of no date of birth. You're entitled to not put it down on your CV.

thats true about the birthdate unless you gave them an application form and didnt fill it out but since it was a cv... its within their right now to resubmit their cvs for consideration. if age is an important factor for you, then you should make it explicit why and that its a requirement on the cv. that might be against the law however but i'd understand why you'd do that, someone might be too young ect but thats what interviews are for to detect maturity.

Just to let you know, we got so many applications that without basic information included such as a date of birth how are we to know how old the person is and therefore if we are able to let them into the back room of the studio. Technically we cannot employ someone who is not over the age of 18 due to the fact that they will be around a lot of naked/semi-naked people which would be very irresponsible of us to let a 15 or 16 year old witness. We also needed to see relevant work experience to know that the chosen person would be capable of dealing with the public and had at least tried other lines of work that would give them some relevant experience that would be of value to us and to gauge how old or mature someone is, a 16 year old won't have much previous work experience.
It would not be practical to interview every person. We had to narrow it down some way. To be honest I think it wouldn't matter how politely I worded things or how fair we were in choosing an apprentice, people would still have criticism of us due to the fact that we can't please everyone, so someone is going to be unhappy with the elimination process used.
We have now chosen our apprentice and she won't turn 18 until May, so we are postponing her start date until she is old enough to be in the room when I am doing such things as genital piercing etc. But she has relevant experience of working with customers, is a polite and approachable person who stood out from the other applicants and is raring to learn. That is more important to us than the right look, age or presence of tattoos and piercings.

Just saying it's potentially illegal, that's all.
    Never mind those silly laws.
