E30 M3 Hartge, I think they have an M5 engine though.

Hartges are completely bonkers, what about the E87 with the E39's 5.0 400 bhp engine? Or the current car H50, an E90 with the M///V10 from the E60,61,63 and 64. A 200 mph car.

    Here it is in action.

TBH my mate's one is the only Hartge I've ever seen.
I think his one is very rare, it was built specifically for the Nuremburg ring.
It's completely mint, he's always getting asked by BMW magazines and others to feature it.
It's definitely the quickest car I've ever been in, it's value keeps going up instead of down too.

Spend a few quid on your Supra and it could do wheelies:

Yeah, some of those single-turbo setups that are common in the US are crazy, serious money involved though.

The one in this clip is a beast.

Didn't mean to offend, but dismissing the motoring industry of an entire nation, one which has so many advocates and fans, as being beneath you was always going to provoke strong reaction. And it did from me, and from others.

By your own admission you have never driven some of Japan's finest... some legends in their own lifetime with worldwide acclaim, but yet they are below your aspirations. How you know that puzzles me. Your standards must indeed be high.

Some old Porsches are crap and are talking points only. Are you looking for a good car or are you looking for a Porsche?

Right, I kinda gave you a final warning in another thread, before I saw this one. I hope you're aware your posting behaviour is not on. Cool down or I'll opt you out...

    I am sorry?
I am not trying to be smart here. I am kidding alright. This is a nice joke, nothing mad, rude or insane here.

The last time fair enough I changed a few letter in a buddy's nickname, but here really I do not see what is wrong.
    Only kidding mate.

I did no such thing. I've owned several Japanese cars. What does that say about me? Go figure!

If you offered me a drive in some of those cars, I'd gladly take you up on it to give it a wee spin to see what's the crack :)

If you would have told me 2 weeks ago that I would be driving a classic car (any) or a Porsche (any), I would have called you a looper.

I had absolutely no yearning to buy anything like that. On the contrary, I've recently spent well over a grand to get a total suspension overhaul on the BMW 735. My plan was firmly to stick with the 7 for the next few years

Then came along a chap asking on boards.ie about what a 928 was worth. I had no idea. I still haven't. I started doing some research on the car (I remember it being launched when I was a boy, I've been a life long fan!) and along the way, I started to get really excited about possibly being able to buy and own that car!

Now, I'm the last person to brag about my car, it has many faults, most of them electrical, but it passed the NCT the week before I bought it. The mechanicals seem to be sound

I had planned to have it checked out by a decent, well respected Porsche specialist before I bought it, but due to his personal circumstances, that was not possible at the time

So I was left to my own instincts. After a decent enough test drive I stopped at my bank and withdrew the money. It wasn't until I handed it over to the owner that I realised I was the owner of a Porsche 928, or as someone would say, an aul' car

At 22 years old it's not a classic yet tho? ie you're paying top whack for road tax (assuming you've VRTed it)?

I noticed your list of questions: one of my major concerns with a car of that age that hasn't had an engine rebuilt would be has a compression test been done, and how much power has it lost. Admittedly starting at 320bhp you could drop to 200bhp before the the effects start to show. Does it feel quick? Have you clocked it with an accelerometer to see what it's doing 0-60 in?

Is it the 3-speed or 4-speed auto box? 0-60 times and other performance figures here.

EDIT: Testing an auto with the accelerometer is quite a good indication as all you have to do is put your foot down, the box will change gear at exactly the same times that it did when they tested it originally, so there will be no variation due to drivers. A friend has a 1992 LS400 with 155,000 miles on the clock. It's clocking 60 in 8.4, whereas originally it would have done it in 7.9, which isn't too bad.

Just because it's not a big mad yoke you see on a Jap car doesn't mean it's not a spoiler;). Understated is always better!

My wife's Honda has a lip like that on the boot.

No, look at the span from the top of the back window down to the end of what's there. That needs something to break the monotony.

    Something like this maybe:

A bootlip spoiler is what it's called:D:D! And I know you know why they exist, so I'm not going to tell you what their purpose is(but I do know for anyone else who thinks they're just to make the car look nicer)!

Depends on who's defining what is a classic car :)

I have it insured as a classic car but indeed, for tax and NCT purposes, only cars over 30 years old are considered to be "classic"

I doubt it has lost a considerably amount of power. It does feel quick. Much quicker than my a bit over 8s 0-100 km/h 735. You really have to plant your foot right down to get kick down, but you know it is there when you do. I've been used to V8 3ish litre saloon cars, but this really is a V8 nearly 5l sportscar!
    JHMEG wrote: »

It's the 4-speed ZF auto box. The same one as in the 80s Merc S Class (W126)
    JHMEG wrote: »

Yep, came across that site and those figures before I bought the car. 0-100km/h in my 22 year old 928 automatic is only a little bit quicker compared to a brand new hot hatch like a Golf or a Civic. The standing start sprint is not the forte of the heavy 928 though

In real life the only times I ever do a nought to something is when I depart from a toll booth with my right foot all the way down. I don't really mind paying toll. I've been enjoying the V8 roars for about 8 years now :D
