I think this was mentioned on another thread already but I can't find it. I threw out my pair of Asics last night that I got for €14 when I was living in the Middle East last year, they served me well but their time had come. Just looking for recommendations for the best place to buy a pair of good runners, you know where the shop will measure the arc of your foot to prevent injury/back problems etc to get them perfectly fitted. I heard there's a guy in Cork called John something or other, I'm sure there are a few places in Dublin too. Do you know if there are any such shops in Limerick?

In Cork it's John Buckley Sports. Yes, they are helpful wrt foot arch and gait.

Amphibian King in bray are excellent, I got fitted out for a pair of Mizunos last year and found them to be excellenct - Bray might be a bit out or your way tho. The guy who works there Damian McKeever? is very knowledgable and if you make an appointment you'll get 100% attention. There's a few threads about them somewhere.

I was running in new balance at the time and started getting shin splints but with the Mizunos i've had no issues

Was out in Lifestyle in blanch yesterday and i was looking to replace my Aisics GT 2120s - €80 down from €115. Not a bad discount. few other bargians too. Handy if you know what you're looking for - wouldn't say you'd get specialist fitting

I went to Runways on Parnell st. (back of the Ilac, besides cycleways(Dublin)), he did gait analysis;very cool; a wee vid camera as I ran on a threadmil, tryed out a variety of shoes to see how they affected stability, played back in slow mo. I settled on a pair of Mizuno's. Going well so far. dedicated runnin shop, guy theres pretty cool to, n seems to know his stuff.

Hey was in runways a while ago and they had little to no stock. Have they got the other brands in yet?

When I was talking to him he was saying they were hoping to get Asics in at the time I think all he had was Mizuno and Pearl Izumi, ended up getting something in Arnotts they have a pretty good range in there.

Think he was still hoping gettin more stock, but he seemed to have a good lot behind dem mirrors. Didn't see all, had mizuno, new balance n think some others..seemed like good enough stock, but didn't really check it out.

Limerick Sports Store on William st is pretty good, probably the best in Limerick anyhow. Good range of asics and other running shoes.

Siobhan in Limerick Sports Store knows her stuff. Wherever you go - beware the kids working in the chain shops - they don't know their shoes. They just know how to fetch your size from the stockroom.

See here. In Dublin, Sportsworld in Terenure run by Mick Dowling, seems to be the place. Don't know whether they do a full measurement service.
I have a vague recollection that there was somewhere in Belfast that did a full gait analysis but I guess you'd want to be pretty serious for that to be worth your while.

If you know someone with an Arnotts card , their winter card invite sale is on this Thursay in Dublin , brilliant vale in the asic running shoes. almost 50% off usually.

I wouldn't call myself a very serious runner but I went in to Amphibian King on the advice of this forum and I thought it was fantastic.

They spend about 30 minutes with you, asking you all sorts of questions about your running and previous injuries. They then conduct the Gait analysis on you running on a track, which is a lot more natural than a treadmill. The shoes are priced at or below rrp which was great I've already been back twice!

Outside of the 01 area John Buckley in Cork is excellent and Limerick sports are good, they don't carry the same range as buckleys or Amphibian King but they are pretty good. The one up north is called "up and Running" I've been there too they wouldn't be as big as buckleys or Amphibian King though.

Just back from Runways - seems like a nice bloke working there but "we've nothing in a UK 10" doesn't suggest to me a well stocked shop...........

It's a running shoe shop not a clown shoe shop.

(that joke would work better if you wanted size 14+ shoes, but I work with what I'm given)

Went to runways again today to see if they had got more stock in. They hadn't

He just reckoned they hadn't got the room to hold much stock which is an odd thing to say to a customer. I wasn't looking for any particular shoe just any shoe in my size.

Went into Siobhan on Wednesday and bought myself a pair of Asics
GT-2130s - she certainly knows her stuff. God it was like buying a car in there she was going through so many specifications! Went running last night and I may as well have been driving a brand new Ferrari I was so happy with them. Cheers for the recommendation.
