For those of you who are interested in playing American Football but don't have the time (or maybe money) to invest in the kitted version of the game, Flag Football might be the version for you. There's no specialist kit required apart from flags (provided) and a gum shield (which you have to buy yourself, €3 from any good sports store... and many bad ones). You can pick up and play the game in minutes and you don't have to be very fit either. There's no contact either, so it's different tactically to contact football.

The Dublin Sharks play in Raheny and are in the Dublin North division of the Irish Flag Football Association. Anyone who's interested can contact me here or e-mail sharks at gobolts.com for more info.

    See you then!

On All Saints Road, near the Texaco. Come along tomorrow, introduce yourself, bring boots and a tracksuit and we can throw you a few passes, if you're interested. FTR, the Sharks and UCS are in the same group, so no spying ;)

Nice to see....eh.... zero of ye down :p. Come on down lads if ye are interested. For training we usually just have a throw about nothing too serious. All you need for training is boots so pop down, we are all nice and friendly so just ask us anything.

You should have come down yesterday as their was only 6 of us, we had a game of 3 V 3 and it was great, sure I will leave it too SexyIrish their to tell you about my fake fumble pass play :D I used it to get passed him :p.

Hmm... nope, doesn't ring any bells. I DO remember a 40 yard TD run and two long receptions that went for TD's on my part ;)

there's a gang of lads who play in the park in Waterford on Sundays - are they a club or just a group of friends?

Oh and when I say "play" I've never actually see them play, I've seen them arrive, take ages to tog out, take ages to layout the cones to mark the pitch, take ages throwing practice throws, and take ages standing around talking to each other - I have never seen them actually play the game - sorry to all the lads involved if any of you read this, but could you just get on with it some Sunday coz I'd love to see how the game works.

I'd love to get involved in this...

Any teams in South Dublin. Just easier for me than trying to get across the city :D

    Hi there...

I'd also be interested, but as I live in Kildare somewhere in West or South Dublin would suit me better. Would like to maybe give Flag Football a try and see how I enjoy it before looking at kitted football.

Any websites out there explaining the game, how it works etc? Had a look at the Irish Flag Football Association website and it seems to be pretty poor, looks like it hasn't been updated in a while, some of the links don't work and I don't see any kind of 'welcome to the sport', or 'how to play section'.

    J.

I take exception to you calling the Flag Football site "pretty poor". It is so much worse than that. It goes up and down like a fiddlers elbow and stuff disappears like it has a "please nick me sign on it"
I have not been able to access it since......possibly since the last dated post although the last one may have vanished.

The rules are on the grassroots section of the NFLe site.

What age do you have to be?

What days do yous train as well?

Oh, in case I didn't make myself clear....this is my web site.

Sorry Titan, hope I didn't offend! I just thought the website would have a bit more of a 'welcome to beginers who want to play' section! Hope your issues with your ISP ( I'm assuming that's why you can't update it ) get sorted.

So, as I can't get info from the website, do you know if there are any West Dublin or South Dublin teams? I'll check out the NFLe site for the rules, thanks!

    J.

We're hoping to play trinity on the 16th. TBH I don't have a clue what the craic is with the league at the mo

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 164 ✭✭TITAN #1

........hands up, that is me again.

The first game of the league was played last Sunday. The Craigavon Cowboys beat the Carrickfergus Knights by 20 - 14 in Carrick.

I don't think anyone has scheduled anything for this weekend but the following weekend has a lot of games lined up.
The Christmas break and the bad weather have slowed everything up but games should be a lot more regular now.

There's a mini blitz on in the Phoenix Park on Saturday, starting from 11. Here's the schedule.

    1 - Dublin Sharks @ TCD Pav
    2 - UCD B @ TCD Buttery
    3 - UCD A @ Dublin Sharks
    4 - UCD A @ TCD Pav

Should be finished around 4 or 5pm. Anyone interested can come along. You prolly won't get any playing time, but you can watch!

FWIW, any team that comes out of the blitz with 2 ticks in the W column is almost guaranteed a spot in the finals day, with only 3 guaranteed teams actually IN the Dublin North Division...

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 14,681 ✭✭✭✭P_1

Probably won't be able to make it myself. My 21st is the night before and I doubt I'll be in a fit state to play football at 11 :D
