I read that the new towns being connected from the Corrib gas pipeline will have fibre layed when the gas pipe is layed. But what isp will use this to provide internet....UPC? or will it never be used.

There was no fibre layed in Castlebar with the Gas pipes, saying that Castlebar has had fibre for years, its just not used.

99.99% of new Gass lines going to big area have a Fibre lines run though them for years now but most of them are "Dark Fibre".

In many case I think there is empty ducts for fibre on Gas pipe routes.

While nice, the major issue is connection to a customer, which fibre on Gas pipelines won't solve.
