Talking to a Renault salesman recently he claimed that the 1.5DCI Laguna (Privilage) was introduced at a reduced price until April of this year, where it will then increase by €2700. Then when the new VRT rates apply it will come back down, by 9% according to the new VRT rates for this engine.

What a crock, I doubt Renault is taking a loss on every one sold at the moment, as you’ll also get a €2000 discount for cash, it sure looks like they will be increasing prices to suck up any potential VRT saving customers can expect after July.

    Not impressed.

How much is the initial reduction? The jump of €2700 may not sound as bad if we knew. Or is the €2700 just a removal of the reduction?

Can I post an LOL also?

Renault are supposed to have spent a fortune trying to get this Laguna more reliable than the last.

(/Stevie I know a prev post was a tad obnoxious but was trying to get a point across . When your faced with chronic unreliability and price variations of 2700e , then a little play in the Mondeo door handle doesnt seem too bad)

Not necessarily broken down, could have been just transporting it for a dealer.

Iv heard that dealers are not going to pass on VRT savings to customers by playing with pricing. Makes sense when 90% of car dealers in this country are not making money. Thing is, its not difficult to go to the UK, buy a new one and VRT it here yourself so that tactic might not last for long.

BF works driving a car transporter for a company here in the west, he says that they are equally as busy transporting this year as they were last year, so not everybody is waiting till june. He says the biggest mover this year is the new passat. 5 and 6 full truck loads (10 cars per truck) of them coming west of the shannon every week at the moment.

didnt realise they were putting a 1.5 diesel engine in such a big car?
What sort of BHP and torque is this engine giving?
Same engine thats in the Megane? or is it tweaked?

When Renault introduced the new Laguna, it was initially minus the all important for Ireland 1.6 litre engine. To compensate for this fact, what Renault did was sell the 1.5 dCi for the price the 1.6 should sell for as a stop go measure. The 1.6 will be available in February, and then Renault will sell the 1.5 dCi at the price it always should have retailed for. There is no mystery to it and it's nothing to do with dealers!

As for VRT reductions, the SIMI sets the recommended retail price of the car, and the dealer is free to sell any car at whatever price they feel fit to.

BMW has already confirmed that it will pass on any VRT savings in full to the customer. The SIMI reckons that in 2009, 70% of cars sold will be diesel. Now look at the prices of new diesel cars now and see if you can make the connection with what I'm implying.

How any dealer could be losing money is beyond me, as there are record numbers of cars being sold every year.

Though if people aren't getting cars serviced at dealers anymore and preferring a specialist or other competent mechanic, then perhaps they should be asking themselves why is nobody getting cars serviced here and do something about it. If people are able to get better servicing for far less money than a main dealer then that's the dealer's problem, not ours, and they should increase customer care standards and charge less People for the most part aren't stupid and if dealers can't see what I'm saying then they shouldn't be in business.

It has 109 bhp, more than a 1.9 TDI Passat and the 100 PS version of the Mondeo 1.8 TDCi, and in turn is only 6 bhp less than the 1.6 petrol. It averages 55.4 mpg and pollutes 136 g/km, so 16% VRT and €150 tax for anyone who buys one in July.
