His injury was expected to take between 7 months to a year to heal and he's back after what 3? I wonder if he is fully healed and if he will compete at the Mania at all. This could easily be another WWE/Vince stunt. A surprise appearance at the Rumble will generate huge interest for WWE. Don't be surprised to see Raw do huge ratings tonight.
I would hope even the WWE wouldn't be stupid enough to bring him back months before he was ready to fight. I did read an interview the other day where he said he was still going though hours of rehad every day, and that while he would be at WM24 in some capacity, he wouldn't be fighting at it.

stupid MSG crowd giving Cena the pop of the night then deciding "no wait its cooler to boo him so we'll turn on him again"

Ah yes as santino would say "a bunch of chokers" and "the only team you guys have left to cheer is from new jersey" brillant:D

Even if he is still injured will he be fully healed by Wrestlemania which is what 9 weeks away? Will be interesting to see when he gets back into the ring.

I'd say he'll feature heavily on RAW but not be in any matches, or at least he'll only be in matches with veterans who'll look after him and make sure he doesn't get re-injured.

Can they really do that if he supposed to be going to headline Mania?

Cena's capable of better matches, and he's a nicer guy. I'd much rather have him there. I only hope he actually is recovered and that he won't drop his title shot in the next couple of months. Unless it's to Jeff I suppose. Although Jeff looks kinda useless now

Better matches than HHH. I have to disagree with that.

Cena winning is a shock but he can't be fully healed. There's no way. I'd rather have an uninjured HHH main eventing than a one armed JC. (Then again I'd rather have HHH main eventing with a torn quad than JC but that's just because Cena annoys me so much)

But it looks like we're back to normal. And normal ain't good.

    My initial thoughts were...

    WWE 1 Internet Fanboys 0.
No one could have predicted Cena to come back. What a great swerve by WWE, heck he was on Soccer AM withh Tuuuubbbbeesss last Saturday and he is supposed to be out for another 4 months.

My thoughts at the moment are...
No way can he recover that fast from such a severe injury. So maybe on Raw tonight, we might see someone totally destroy him (thus giving him a storyline reason to be out of mania and also to give someone some heat heading to WM24).

    YOUR WINNER: JOHN CENA

CENA CELEBRATES AS THE SHOW GOES OFF THE AIR. JOHN CENA IS GOING TO WRESTLEMANIA!!! PYRO EXPLODES, THAT'S IT!

I must admit i was surprised Cena won

Why?!!!!!!!! This was supposed to be the Cena free Wrestlemania, it was supposed to be the year where somebody else got a damn chance. Fair enough I was shocked, but not in a good way.

Arrrrg, its just so frustrating that he was injured, didn't need to win the Royal Rumble but still did. Kennedy, CM Punk, MVP, Finlay, Dreamer or Morrison could have gotten a massive boost but instead its the same old stuff. Cena? Why?

    Cena? Why?

Simple answer - most of the fans love him

  • Registered Users Posts: 6,943 ✭✭✭Machismo Fan

I know the fans love him but this was their chance to really give someone else a chance while their mega-star was missing. Cena really needed the break as the longer he was out the more the fans will miss him and the more important his return would be.

For the first time in my life I have truly gotten angry about something wrestling related.

    Hundredth post by the way.

the NY crowd proved last night that cena is superover with everyone but the "cool" fans or the so called "cena haters" don't want to admit it, they forgot their own script last night

Cena got injured on October 1st so he would be out the best part of 4 months. I never bought the 7 months to 1 year thing as edge tore his pec a few months previous and was only out for 3-4 months as well

The comeback was great, first time in years it has not been ruined on me ! :) , The Finish to the Hardy/Orton match, Vince finds a way to destroy all the hype and momentum around Jeff and leave any match that he might have with him at No way out to just be poorly booked now. The match itself was very good til the ending  ..

I liked the Edge vs mysterio match, JBL vs Jericho well thats going till WM, Flair vs MVP looks to be going till at least no way out.

P.S Work is hard with little or no sleep .

Yes your right, but the way the flair mvp match went, with MVP giving out to the ref at the end , just makes me think thats its going to go on longer. Suppose it depends on when Matt hardy is back?

Stayed up to watch it last night and feeling worse for wear today. Overall thought it was good

Flair v MVP. Poor match in my opinion. Didnt like the ending, MVP was too quick to tap out. Besides not many people these days tap out to the figure 4.

JBL v Y2J. Knew it would end with a dq, keeps the feud going which will be good. Reckon Y2Js cut prevented any decent match happening here.

Edge v Mysterio. Good ending, potential there for an ongoing feud to wrestlemania (dont know what Batista and Taker will say about that)

Orton v Hardy. Lived up to my expectations, some great moves by both wrestlers. Although a Hardy win would have blown the roof off MSG, knew Orton would win after Hardy had the better of the previous 3 weeks. Deserves a rematch.

Rumble match. Great way to start things, Taker and HBK, glad to see HBK eliminate Taker as revenge for last year. The Cena entrance really surprised me although dont think he should have won. For a start, he wont be fully fit and he's supposed to be off filming a movie in April. I still think it will be HHH in the main event at wrestlemania with some angle on RAW where Cena loses his shot.

Well off to finish my days work and get some good sleep.

I fear this also, which will completly devalue the Royal Rumble in my opinon. Has anyone ever won the rumble and not competed at Wrestlemania for the title?

in recent years Vince mcmahon has won the rumble but gave up his spot.

The winner of the rumble didn't always have a shot at the champ at mania that only came to pass in the last 12 years or so

Overall I enjoyed the show. No match was unbelievable or anything but it was all fun to watch. A few random thoughts too:

    - The video packages for the Rumble and for the Hardy/Orton feud were awesome. I hope Hardy's feud with Orton isn't over or gets lost in the shuffle with Cena being back.

    - Cena coming back was a bolt out of the blue. I've a feeling it's Triple H versus Cena at 'Mania. It is the big money match I guess but it doesn't float my boat just yet.

    - Micheal Buffer doing the announcing for the Rumble was a nice touch.

    - The MSG crowd is a blessing and a curse.

Jackass friend sent a text just containing the name John Cena at 4am. Ruined the who match for me.

Anyway, didn't read the whole thread, but did anyone see the missed bulldog from Jericho that JBL sold anyway?

Just watched this now. First thing I have to say is...

    YEAHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The Champ is back baby! What a f*cking kickass Rumble. I'm not sure what pleases me the most, the fact that Cena deservedly won or the fact that big nosed politicking bastard Triple H got beat. F*ck him and his SuperHunter antics eliminating practically everybody and trying to hog the limelight for Cena's return. Oh how I jumped for joy when his washed up ass got thrown out! Shove that up your arses you Cena hating Triple H fanboys!

I must say I cared little for the rest of the card. Edge/Rey was disappointing and the booking for the Hardy/Orton match was a disgrace. I suspect Triple H had something to do with that.

I also find it hard to believe that we will actually get a Wrestlemania title match without SuperHunter. They could potentially go for a Batista/Triple H World Title match, or else throw in Triple H into the WWE title picture after he bitches to his Mrs.

But I'm not going to worry about that. Right now I'm just going to savour that Royal Rumble which was the best one I've seen since the one in 2001. Absolutely fantastic and electrifying. Welcome back Cena!

LOL. More people should have my rage!

I can't understand how fans can turn a blind eye to this guy's behaviour. Even so-called 'smart' fans in NY are all over him. He's just as bad as Hogan ever was. He's a selfish, insecure arsehole and Wrestlemania would be better off without his mug gracing it.

I thought Cena coming back was brillant on vinnie macs part.....Completely out of the blue. Ans I thought the segment with flair, HHH, HBK, Batista and kennedy was great

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 516 ✭✭✭Danger_Dave

I do agree that he can be very bad for business when it comes to burying people, especially in the short time hes been back. However he's entertaining, Why ?, because he's one of those guys you either love or hate, and you cant help yourself and watch Raw to see what hes going to attempt to do.

I Dont think he'll be involved with the title on Raw, Orton vs Cena (if fully fit) is perfect, Cena "injured" at the hands of Orton, Comes back to get the title shot, the title he never lost in a match, to fight him at WM, like to see Orton win at WM. Edge vs Undertaker at WM seems set in stone, but we could see a HBK vs Undertaker match ?. One thing im sure of come WM , jeff hardy will win the MITB.

P.S Long live the king of kings :) just because so many people despise him

LOL. More people should have my rage!

More people do, trust me! I was SICKENED when Undertaker was eliminated, I assumed him or HHH would win it. Then the CHAMP RETURNED, and all was well with the world.

The undercard was meh. I was really looking foward to Orton-Hardy, but the booking was bollix for it. Jeff got an incredible push, and now it looks like it's over, just like that. Pity.

Maybe the least amount of people eliminated? Seen as though Finlay and Hornswoggle wern't techinically eliminated....

That was a fantastic rumble match. That folks is why im a wrestling fan. I cant believe that in the age of the internet and all the smarks out there they managed to pull this off. Just brilliant.

I am soooooooooo pissed off. John f*cking Cena is just a f*cking limelight whore!! Here we are in the middle of a great WWE title situation. Jeff was getting pushed in a great feud. Now, we're back to 2005, cos John Cena couldn't stay out the amount of time he was meant to. I was just saying yesterday, that it'll be great when Cena returns AFTER 'Mania. It's great WWE managed to keep it a secret, but it ruined the Rumble for me. If I had tickets to Mania and this happened I'd rip them up! I'm that pissed off!

As for all the Triple H hating/loving. He is a big part of the WWE, he proved he can still have gfreat matches in the LMS match at No Mercy and he is probably never going away. So like it or go watch the competition (if there was any)!

The rest of the card was great bar Hardy not winning the WWE title. I liked the Flair/MVP match - simple and effective. Same for JBL and Jericho. Edge and Mysterio had a good match too, I liked the ending.

I liked it. I was fearing the worst, and it would have been the worst thing ever, when I saw Triple H get no 29. Cena's reaction was pretty interesting. The initial pop was huge but for some bizarre reason the MSG crowd(who really should know better) cheered Trips over Cena and he got booed like its 2006. While I'm not mad about Cena being in the main event at WM, it is the lesser of two evils.

Orton and Jeff was the match of the night. I really had no problem with the ending either. Jeff was one big move away from winning but the cunning champion bet him to the punch. I don't see that a a burial of shìt booking or whatever else was said before. I cant see why they wouldn't do a ladder match at NWO as a feud ender.
Edge and Rey was terrible I thought, really disappointing from them two. Why was Rey getting booed? that didn't make any sense.
Flair and MVP was a grand opener and it served it's purpose for Flair going into WM. JBL and Y2J didn't do it for me. I hope thats the end of their feud with Jericho getting revenge for being cholked, but I doubt it.

Overall, grand. But not as good as last year.

Dont forget WWE still have an out on the Cena Wrestlemania thing. Hornswagle wasnt eliminated. I wouldnt be surprised if this plays a big part in the booking of RAW tonight.

wonder if Cena's return is the reason Ortan beat Jeff cleanly. I mean that he wont get a rematch now maybe as Ortan wouldent consider him to have grounds for deserving one and instead of that at No Way Out we will get a match to get HHH into the title picture for Mania and maybe a triple threat. maybe HHH vs Ortan for the title and the WM match against Cena but it ends with a contested decision so the WM match ends up a triple threat

Hmmmm, contradictions here Minto! Cena is just as big a part of WWE as HHH is and is not going to go away either, deal with it.

As for his injury, Cena was initially meant to be out for 3-4 months. Then WWE did their maths and copped on that if they say 6 months people wont expect him to return at the Rumble. Sleight of hand. Kind of.

It seems like maybe they will keep the Jeff Orton feud going till NWO because tonight on RAW tag match Jeff + Jericho vs Orton + JBL...obviously that feud going on for a while too,,,NWO is on the 17th FEB and that leaves little time for any other person to get in the title picture till then...Hopefully Jeff vs Orton in a gimmick match??

He was meant to stay out until he was cleared to wrestle. He's obviously been cleared to wrestle. Every report on his recovery I heard always mentioned that he was ahead of schedule, so it's not like they've rushed him back to screw over Jeff or anything like that

Did Hornswoggle go over the top rope though? They should do a gimmick where Finlay has to carry Hornswoggle around without letting him touch the floor and Cena has to stay on a pogo stick the whole time. And they both try to knock each other over to see who gets to main event Wrestlemania

Its not a contradiction, because, I've no problem with Cena. I know he is a big part of the WWE, not as big as Triple H. My gripe however is that Cena came back from injury early.

how the hell did Finlay get disqualified? since when are there Dqs in the Rumble? Tommy Dreamer brought a binful of weapons a few times and started smacking everyone with a kendo stick, never got DQ'ed, they seem to change the rules every year, the one that that wrecks my head about the Rumble is the fact guys who have been eliminated can then throw guys out and it counts! wtf!? if thats the case get yourself thrown out early, hang around ringside for the whole match and chuck out the last 2 guys then bam you're on easy street to Mania, why has nobody ever thought of doing this?

God yeah how dare Cena bust his ass off in rehab in order to get back doing the job he loves! He should have sat at home relaxing and taking his paycheque! What a jerk!

I think it's not a burial of Jeff Hardy once he doesn't get lost in the shuffle over the next few weeks. He really did have momentum though going in to last night and it's gonna be hard to re-capture it again but it's possible if they play it right.

Interestingly, both Bruce Mitchell and Meltzer in their live updates said that they could see from Hardy's face that he wasn't winning before the bell even rang. Actually to be fair Meltzer said exactly "Jeff has a weird look on his face like he's really disappointed while Orton gave the belt the go away stare and the announcers started talking about history and the number of people who have held the WWE title".

Above all else though, the ending of last night has made everything unpredictable which is always good, especially for jaded wrestling fans. I still have a hunch that Cena and Triple H will end up in the same match at 'Mania but really, there's a whole host of possibilities they could go with now.

You don't understand my frustration MNG! We were promised a Cena free WrestleMania. You can't believe how screwed by WWE I feel right now.
