I demand to be proposed to. (I know he'll read this so - Honey? TAKE THE HINT!!)

Hahahaha! But seriously. To be brought out for a nice meal or something. Even a day with just him, and nothing else...

But if he wants to go with number one there, who am I to deny him? :p

Its a leap year you can propose to him on the 29th ;)

I dont expect anything, that way its a bonus if he does something nice! Its all a bit of a joke though, as its a Hallmark holiday. I like dinner and a night in, but we do that anyway, so doing it for Valentines is pointless.

Last year i got him a remote control plane! Both of us love presents so why not! He got me a bunch of tulips -my fave flowers (they were lillies , didnt have the heart to tell him, bless!). He set a lovely big log fire and we watched a dvd and ate chinese. simple and memorable!

Its my 1st one with him so it wouldn't really matter what we do but a few hours in bed the minute I arrive at his would be ideal followed by us sharing a bottle of wine and talking the rest of the night(tbh sounds like our usual fri night)...some flowers too might be nice. I'm easily pleased, but no it is commercialistic but I think it can also be about taking time out from every day tasks/routine to appreciate the one your with :)

Last year was our first Valentine's Day together. I stupidly pretended it didn't mean anything to me because I'd just come out of a long term relationship.. nearly 3 years and was terrified, held back for a long time.

So I'd like to have some special attention, maybe do things he doesn't normally do like go out of his way to be romantic. I'd love something as simple as him making me dinner or a drive to somewhere nice, just that sort of thing. Anything simple, romantic and meaningful.... although if he does want to make a big romantic gesture I will not complain!! :D

I definitely would not expect flowers to be sent to me or to be brought out to dinner!!

I made a reservation in Fire for Valentines (the 15th as my girlfriend is only flying in late on the Thursday). Thought it was a good idea!

She thinks that Fire doesnt look that romantic.

If you had a choice for a romantic dinner were would it be in Dublin city? (Or Lexilip?)

I probably should just grow a set and tell her were we are going!

To Be honest I'd avoid Dinner in dublin on Valentines day, had a horrible Psata Fresca experience years ago.
But....cafe topolis was nice and cosy last time I was there.

Have you been to Fire before? The food is great, and the dining room is amazing, but it's quite open plan and busy, so if you want somewhere cosy and intimate you might want to go elsewhere. Can't fault the food though, the prawns, lamb and steak are to die for. Fairly pricey though!

Becketts in Leixlip would be a nice Valentines restaurant-nice setting, great food.

god tell her to be grateful she has someone who has thought this far ahead! fair play to you ;)

I'm sure the place is lovely, don't mind her!

I don't know about Leixlip but I'd recommend Eatzen in Clonee, it's a chinese and is lovely and the staff are great, yum yum

Haven’t been to Fire. A friend recommended it to me.

Only place in Leixlip that I can think off is the place at the bottom of the hill. That or Sammy’s!

Not a big fan of Becketts. Been there a lot

Is Fire to formal for dinner? Would you have to get all dressd up and stuff?

I rarely go out for dinner when I'm in Dublin.

Most places are just bland food, with rubbish service.

    Take her paintballing instead :D

Dublin has a great selection of restaurants imo.

You must be going to the wrong places.

Well, I haven't been to every restaurant in Dublin.

But I've never been impressed. In particular if you compare them to restaurants in continental europe, or australia/new zealand.

The italian places always serve the same rubbishy pasta with tiny amounts of meat and the same sauces. Then they vary it with pizza and lasagne.

The chinese places have pretty much identical menus, as do the french ones.

Add into that the plethora of irish restaurants that just do main courses of burgers/steak,chicken maryland etc.

Plus you pay a fortune in Dublin compared to most places. maybe I'm on my own in thinking that, but it's definitely my expoerience.

+1 I love eating out in Dublin and I don't like bland food!
