Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

    Hi all
Having a problem recently with my HP laptop.
Bought it last year and everything has been fine but I ve noticed recently that after signing in it takes a good 2 minutes for the desktop to come up.

Watching in task manager I can see it has started but doesnt seem to get going.

    AMD Turion 64 X2
    2 gig of ram

Boot to windows and hold the windows key and R to get the run command.
In run type in MSCONFIG and click ok.

then click the Startup Tab and have a look for any services you dont need.
If your pc is taking a while to start up this is the reason everything that loads at startup should be under this menu. but be warned you dont want to remove everything read them carefully if I get vista up on a VMware before the end of the night I'll post you a screen shot of the way I'd leave it.

Thanks for your help with this.
Removed everything but the OS and still the same.
Turned of basic diplay settings and still the same.
Have no disc as it came on the laptop so cant repir or re install if it came to it.

Its strange if I open task manager and kill explorere and start it again it comes up staight away.

I got a new laptop with vista on it - i had to bump up the mem to 4gb before seeing any performance improvement. vista is fairly heavy on resources

Which AMD Turion 64 X2? Just maybe the laptops not fit to run Vista. Maybe its asking too much of the processor. With 2Gb of ram it should be flying. Was it faster before?

that spec is more than enough to run vista.

you must have some spyware on it or a virus if clearing the applications from startup hasnt improved performance.

You have three options really do a clean install or try find the cause of the software issue or this could possibly be faulty RAM.
