    Hey All,
Im just wondering what kind of damage could happen if you left some tools (screwdriver, hammer, wrench, spanner, etc) in the engine bay and were driving? If they fell through the bay, what could actually happen?

Theres a reason for my query, but alas, Im unable to mention it!

    Thanks

depends really - some cars have lots of space in engine bay so they could just fall through to the ground. Some have covers to protect the sump and keep out dirt, so they could just sit on that.

Otherwise they could get jammed in the fan, catch in the timing belt or other drive belts. Lots of bad things could happen from that.

Hmm! Assuming all fans and belts are easily visible, Id imagine a screwdriver for example, could have catastrophic effects..

Even if it just falls through ...a hammer or big spanner bouncing off the road at 100 km/h is no laughing matter either

Actually, very good point. Not only could it damage your own car, it could easily fly through a trailing cars windscreen.

Could be nasty if it gets caught up in drive shafts / steering rack or any of the drive belts as mentioned by others. Best off to try and find / remove it.
