Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Guess he was serious about that.
Fears of a dramatic escalation in Dublin's gangland wars were growing last night after one of Ireland's most notorious criminals was shot and wounded in the city yesterday afternoon.

Martin 'The Viper' Foley, who has 33 convictions, was shot several times at the Carlisle gym in the Kimmage area of south Dublin around 3.15pm. It was unclear if his injuries were life-threatening.

Last night Garda sources in the city said the blame for the attempted murder lay with a rival gang controlled by a Northern Ireland man who also runs the Irish National Liberation Army terror group in Dublin.

That makes over 30 bullets fired in his general direction in four known about assasination attempts, a good few that found thier target and a couple of failed abductions. I know he's a scumbag and all that but you've got to respect that kind of resilience.

I don't know enough about the underworld to figure out who it is that shot him, so I'll just assume it's Tony Soprano

Where does the nickname "The Viper" come from?

Martin Cahill refered to him as the viper when he was talking to a journalist one time, obviously he couldn't use his real name, and it just stuck.

Fair play to him, for being a "notorius criminal" and all.

He has a side business importing slave labour from Bosnia and put's them to work at traffic lights cleaning windscreens so some German guy that was sick of always getting stung for a euro every morning at the Red Tree Roundabout said "I am really, really sick of my money going to 'The Viper'" and it kinda stuck...

....oh yeah and he's a nob, and the twats that tried to kill him are obviously just ****ing usless

30 shots? Ye lads have it all wrong. It wasn't lead, it was Bushmills! And he didn't go into a coma. Now that's impressive!

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 2,799 ✭✭✭Tha Gopher

4 attempts, 30 shots, fcukin hell.

He oughta release a diss record at 50 Cent.

Great quote from when the cops arrived at the scene of the 3rd attempt some years back, he is lying there wounded and simply said "jaysus, this is gettin fcukin ridicilous now!". Thats more like something you say when you buy 3 tvs in a year and they all break.

    Smilar to Saddam Hussein.
He had countless attempts on his life by the yanks and it took the Iraqis themselves to kill him.

Kind of like Rod Hull. He survived countless assassination attempts, even emu tried to kill him at one stage.

After all that he tried to fix the aerial and fell off the bloody roof

Who the hell shot him, a one-armed midget in a wheelchair? The gangsters in Ireland are a laughing stock, they can't even carry out a simple hit.

Maybe they need to switch weapons, use a powerhose or something, try drown him with it.

He was shot in the head according to the RTÉ News:
"He was shot in the shoulder at least three times, in the hip and two bullets entered his spine and near his kidneys. Another bullet bounced off his skull near his right eye.".

There is probably a decent law abiding person who is sitting on a waiting list for months for a hospital bed and now that bed is occupied by this "person".
    What an injustice.

There was a good article last year maybe, can't remember the source for the life of me, taking the piss out of the likes of the Sunday World and their habit of perpetuating names like "The Viper" etc.

It also took the piss out of Foley. It ran generally along the lines of how Foley's magnificent nickname and frightening reputation didn't stop him getting turfed out and barred from a Dublin pub by the barman.

As for the poor quality of Dublin criminals' hits, I suppose they don't get the practice. They also seem to have a habit of using dodgy Eastern European sub machine guns which they fire on auto and of course would be lucky to hit a wall. But I bet they looked shit-cool when firing it!

If I'm not mistaken Brian Meehan chased Foley firing at him with a submachine gun before. The accuracy was again atrocious. Foley ran into someone's gaff and hid.

If they just shot him in the knees with a double barrell shotgun we wouldn't have to hear about this knacker anymore.

If you survive multiple shootings that doesnt make you hard just lucky. He has no real say where the bullets go in his body or what damage they do.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 23,246 ✭✭✭✭Dyr

It'd be funny if someone shot him a few times and then shoved a stake through his chest as he lay there. But i dont think gangsters have the sense of ironing or lulz for that class of thing

Plus he'll likely be in a single room on his own because he'll need a guard by his door.

All while some granny with a fractured hip is lying on a trolley for 24 hours in A+E.

I wonder how much tax he pays towards running our health service.
