America for the summer

Does anyone know of any other visa you can get for the states that would allow me to work for two months and travel for one? I've come across one website called the gap year but you can only apply if you're a UK resident. :(I'm not in college or anything so can't apply for a J1 and that is the only type of visa I know of. That or a green card!
I've already done a year in Oz and New Zealand but have always wanted to travel and work in the states.
Which city would be the easiest to get work. I can't make up my mind wether to live and work in chicago, san diego or NY. I'll probably just go to the place were it's easiest to get work.
Is anyone looking for a travel partner this summer?

there isn't really a visa that will allow you to work in the US like that. Maybe a temporary workers visa, a H1b visa or something. but i can't imagine a company paying to sponsor you for 2 months of work. they cost a fair bit. and they tend to be for skilled workers or college graduates only.

you can legally enter for 90 days on the VWP but you can't work. so if you had enough money you could just travel for the 2 or 3 months
