Anybody else here attend the tri beginners day held on saturday morning?

    What did y'all think?

Personally, I was really glad I turned up - really tempted to stay in bed when I heard the wind howling outside at half seven that morning. Very impressed with the turn out and the great sense of enthusiasm amongst those who came along.

Though I've been doing a fair amount of base training over the last month or so (running predominantly), it was great to get out and train and meet up with people in a similar situation to myself. I'm already looking forward to the next meet up on the 16th of February!

This was the roll out for the day:

Agenda: Saturday January 26th - Start cycling and running

Meet at Papal Cross carpark, Phoenix Park 0900 - 0930 Registration and payment of 5 euros for associate membership (if not a member of Triathlon Ireland) 0930 - 1000 Division in to groups of ability levels for talk on bike safety, riding in a group, practical skills (basic group riding), safety, stopping, basic equipment required, basics of how to train for cycling (for triathlon).
1000 - 1100 Group bike sesssion, focus on group riding skills, safety, gear selection, suitable paces for beginner groups (45 mins). For more advanced/fitter focus on keeping tempo on hills and peddling skills, cadence, climbing.
1115 - 1200 Run session, for beginner groups focus on walk run, easy pace. For more advanced groups some fartlek work.

A bit of something for everyone, really. For me, getting used again to riding in a group was enjoyable as well as some of the bounding/strides done during the run session.

Currently training for the Connemarathon & do my long runs in Phoenix Park on a Saturday morning. Couldn't get over how many people were out cycling in groups around the Park - cheers for the explanation!

Who organised this beginners day and are there any more planned?

Triathlon Ireland organised it. Keep an eye on www.triathlonireland.com for details of upcoming ones.

    Aarggh,

I missed this (due to self inflicted boozing) and am away for the next one on 16th Feb. I can see that it'll be tough to get myself into the training needed to do a tri!

    Hi lads.

    I'm pretty interested in this.

Only problem is that my bike is a piece of ****e, keeping the breaks working is a challenge!

Will I be ok with my mountain bike, or is it pointless turning up?

There were a whole array of bikes there on the first day, including plenty of mountain bikes so it'd be no problem bringing yours along. Remember to bring your helment as you're not allowed ride without one.
