Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

me and my room mate have xp( 2 separate desktops both store bought,) but both want to upgrade to vista. If we split the cash for the OS will we be able to upgrade both desktops separately with the same package?

    Simple answer, no.

Are you sure the pc's are capable of running Vista? Remember Vista requires a much faster spec pc than Xp with much more memory. Best advise I can give is to stick with Xp, there's nothing new thats special in Vista worth changing for.

Besides making sure that the PC's are able to run Vista smoothly , and that means 2GB ram , enough room for the 14GB install that Vista does , and making sure all your devices and peripherals have Vista drivers .... there is the cost issues ,

An OEM copy costs about 110 euro and will only install once , even on the same machine you cannot re-install without calling Microsoft , The only version that will install without calling microsoft is the full retail package , and thats approx 310 euros. Big big price difference there.

Clearly its cheaper to buy two OEM licenses than one retail package.

To do this legally you would need to get two copies of VISTA,
A barebones PC with vista on it would be cheaper than upgrading most older PC's to 2GB ram + decent video card + whatever else would be needed to get vista to run rather than walk

And you can't use OEM because it's not a new computer.

If you get the upgrad versions of Vista you can't move to another computer - a waste of money on old machines

I've seen XP on a PIII with 64MB of RAM and it's faster than Vista for some stuff.

If you want a free OS , get ubuntu or other Linux or BEOS or BSD or the six month trial version of windows server 2003 ( not sure if anyone has tweaked up 2008 for use as a desktop)
