Mods please don't move this to the hunting forum, its like moving a "Should the Government ban smoking?" thread to the smoking forum.

    Deffo.

Foxes are lovely little creatures. Horses are lovely creatures. Dogs are lovey creatures.

It funny how it only become and organised murder when people get invovled.

I really don't think training dogs that they can eat what they kill is a good idea.

Hunting forum, Animals & Pet Issues and After Hours = Evenly balanced ;)

No. Since England banned fox hunting, people from all over the world now come over to Ireland to do it. It's a big contributer to our economy.

Anyway, it's the dogs killing the foxes. It's what dogs do. It's like trying to ban lions from eating Antelope, in Africa.

Sure in that case, let them kill sheep as well. Thats what dogs do too.

Not until foxes become endangered. Its the human way.

I dont think the government should ban it either - the only people who should be allowed to vote on this are people who live in the countryside not in apartment blocks.

Yeah that's exactly what it's not like.

Now correct me if I'm wrong but I don't remember ever seeing loads of Africans on horseback with prides of lions going after antelope.

Although that would be pretty cool!

Banning fox hunting will not mean that foxes won't be hunted. Many farmers shoot foxes as they are seen as vermin. In the past, foxes were hunted by wolves and bears; since the latter have now become extinct foxes have risen to the top of the food chain and there is no 'natural' method to keep numbers down. Hunting could be seen as a more natural method of keeping numbers down ie only the old and sick foxes tend to be caught, whereas with shooting there is no natural selection.

I do think, however, that hunting should be more heavily regulated in order to get rid of practices which mitigate natural selection.

Well, if they're going to stop them being hunted on horses, they may hand out the rifles a tad easier or we'll have the same people complaining about the decline in game birds and such in a few years. It's that simple really. The numbers need controlling, by whatever means.

Sheep are someone's livelihood. Foxes aren't.

hahaha like banning lions from hunting antelope are you mental.

lions need to hunt to survive - dogs hunt the foxes for human entertainment

it should be banned, its disgusting when the dogs catach a fox and rip it to shreads.
if its not banned for the reasoning of that the intentions are not to catch the fox but for teh craic and to give the dogs a run...well then let the dogs do it with muzzles! i know a couple of people who do it and tell me its amazing to see the dogs on the scent etc and thats the thrill,so use muzzles then! most people who do it are complete knobs though

The dogs are specifically bred to hunt.

now your saying foxes have less of a right to life because humans dont use them or rear them.i dont really need to defeat this arguement it speaks for itself.all animals that are not used by humans in the primary sector are fair game lol
