Just for some mild amusement, entertainment and to give credit where it's due. I suggest we have a little vote for who were was the best poster in 2007.

Obviously we can't include all people in the 10 so what I'll do is include names of people who post a lot and then I'll include an other please state. Then we could have a second round, if needs be.

I'm just glad to be included! But be aware that if you vote for someone other than me, I'm signing you up to all the Christian websites I can find!

when you do something right, people won't know if you've done anything at all.

bloody true given the fact that I'M NOT ON THE LIST.

This is only the first round. Helena you should say who the other people you want are.
Four people will be eliminated in this round. They will be replaced by people who get enough of a mention from posters.

Dades - for being the voice of patience when dealing with my many (supposedly silly) questions :D

Dave - dont know why really........................ :p

Robindich (sp?) - well able to get the point across without being condescending or agressive. (towards me anyway)

Oh BTW I'm not an athiest, can I vote in this? :)

I think thats why dave - perhaps because your insults to me are tongue in cheek and you rarely get overly serious.

Then again it could be because I know a few daves and they're all nice so I'm just transfering that onto you............

hmmmmmmmm that must be it, Can I take my vote for dave back please :D

If I'd have known it was a competition I'd have been less rude to everyone.

Of course you can vote in it.

    Robindich (sp?)
Gosh, thanks! :o "robindch" -- a misspelling of my initials which goes back to signing up for an online account years ago with a lot of beer inside me. A daily reminder of fallibility, I think.

    Don't see why not -- we're a broad church!

That's a rather profound way of looking at a typo :p

I'm happy not to vote for myself (despite trailing in the voting) as my role is more housekeeper than theological intellect! I assume Asiaprod is missing only as his duties as CMod keep him from engaging in lengthy and tedious threads as much as us lot.

I voted for age and experience - that's all I'll say! (John Wine just missed out). ;)

    And thanks Helena!

    A nomination?

I'm genuinely flattered. Even if my name is spelled wrong.

Wicknight and Scofflaw neck and neck ... no surprises there ;)

I voted for Scofflaw.....his posts are always typo free and there is, more often than not, a beauty in his writing and clarification, something almost musical in his approach

Scofflaw is the Sam Harris to Wicknight's Christopher Hitchens.

hmmm I just don't see wicknight like Hitchens, Hitchens is much too pompous for wicknight...although there is the booze connection...on second thoughts:D

    I do love the:

'Cordially' bit, especailly when I first used boards, the warmth of the sign off sort of died out though over time.

Awh ya but he comes up with some golden stuff, he literaly walks into this forum with a hugh target on his head.

Clearly we have different understandings of the meaning of the word "literally". We also spell it differently, but I respect your right to do that.
Scofflaw is the Sam Harris to Wicknight's Christopher Hitchens.

Considering how much I tend to upset people I suppose that makes me Dawkins.

Wouldn't it just make you Hivemind?? :D

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,021 ✭✭✭Hivemind187

Wicknight can't be Hitchens. His arguements dont revolve around the prosaic in the same way.

Hitchens is a very good writer, he is like an angry little hemmingway, Wicknight, on the other hand (while still eloquent) tends not to use the same level of artsy fartsy-ness which so clouds the meaning of Hitchens.

He also makes fewer wild accusations than Hitchens (not saying that hitchens wild claims arent actually correct, just that they are wild).

Catagorising Wicknight into a specific phylum is rather difficult.

I agree Scofflaw has a turn of phrase alright, but I am not sure he has the same depth of knowledge as Robindch who unlike the rest of us makes his points succintly and without waffle and is without question the best poster here.

I think it depends what you like. Colourful english - Scofflaw. Information and succint logic Robindch.

Son Goko would be way higher if he posted more here, I think.

For absolute insanity or the Jerry Springer effect, I like Hivemind.

If I was making a film I would cast as following:

    1. Robindch as the curious incident about the dog in the night. Succint crisp, bullet proof logic.
    2. Wicknight as Sam Harris. Hones in on specifics and cuts them up.
    3. Scofflaw as Dan Dennet. Has a good understand why religion is there.
    4. Hivemind as Hitchens. Crazy.
    5. Dades as Baggini. Reasonably succint and tolerant.

Not sure who'd play Dawkins, Russell or McGinn with, have to think about that.
