How much are they looking for the Type R?

Have you looked on carzone to compare prices?

    Did you test drive it?

yeh know 1 person that has had bought a dodgy car off them, he is 99% sure the car was crashed in japan and repair before sold on to him, have heard stories about them being bad before too and if you ask on other forums you generally get a bad response about them.

what kind of car do you have? edit: seen the link to your car in the sig, i'd offer your car and 4000 - 4500
11500 sounds about right for a mint 98 spec, is the type r up on carzone?

-5th gear Synchros are a problem, make sure the gears dont crunch
-Honda used poor seals, check for leaks around the seals
-at 55k i'd say it has yet to get its timing belt and tensioners replaced, this can be expensive so check it out
    -Rust around rear arches
    -Clutch can be weak too
-Make sure no blue tintish smoke comes from the exhaust it means the vtec is in trouble
-make sure the vtec cuts in at 5800rpm
-cv joints aswell, make sure theres no grinding noise coming from the front

theres probably some more, check out http://www.itr-dc2.com
    NiSmO wrote: »
He said it will be VRT'd do they usually nct it and give it a service before handing it over? (forgot to ask)

they usually just hand it over and expect you to nct it, a 3 month warranty on serviceable parts is minimum you should expect

You should make sure you see the original auction sheet for the car and get a mechanic to check it out too, if they waffle about the auction sheet or delay in getting it for you then walk away.

www.racershaven.com and http://www.midnightclub.ie/ are good places to get info.
Do a search on the forums and it will throw up some answers.

as draff said get the original auction sheet from them. If its an import then they will have it, and if they refuse to show it to you then theres more than enough reason to be suspect. The checks done before auction are very stringent and will list any bumps, scrapes, dents or previous crashes.

IIRC japnuts do a service check for imports, takes a while and costs a bit but can be worth it if theres any questions.

They have somewhat of a bad rep.If you check over some modded car sites you'l see peoples first hand expierence with them.

Is the car uk or jap spec?If looked after you probably wont ever have hassle with it,there great cars and id reccomend owning one for sure.Incedently im selling my 00 one,the 1 downfall i have with the car is its the most uncomfortable daily driver EVER!

Ive Tein coilovers on there softest setting and its still a bone shaker, motorway drone is also a pain in the ass due to lack of sound deadening but its all part of the Type R package!

Security is non existent on them unless its a uk one, there as easy to rob as any other early honda Ie wit ha spoon

I posted a thread a while back asking about the place.....avoid!

Only recently I found out a friend of mine whet and put a deposit down on a Celica. He got a better deal elsewhere and phone JCD explaining this and would be down to collect that evening. When he went down to collect his deposit they had already sent in the log book with his name on it!

And it was for a different car!!

He did get the 500 deposit back in the end mine but had to play hardball.

dnt let ur heart rule ur head!! I wudnt buy anything from jap cars

  • Registered Users Posts: 4,772 ✭✭✭meathstevie

Why don't you import from Japan yourself. Friend of mine is after buying a 1994 GT4 Celica direct from the dealer in Japan 50k km on it. Including shipping, excise and VRT it's going to cost him about 7500 Euro.

time is running out if you want to import from Japan, the car realistically needs to be registered before July or you face highest VRT rate and €2,000 annual road tax.

Try S&B out in Lusk, I found him good to deal with.

Avoid Jap Cars Dublin like the plague.

Is this really going to happen? Why have the government decided they don't want any sane person to import used cars?

(I read the sticky but couldn't find anything specific on the issue)

I went to look at a Ford Escort that they were selling about a year ago. The salesman was one of the most arrogant people I've ever met. He kept snapping at me when I was thoroughly inspecting the car. Needless to say I never bought it. I'd stay well away from them if I were you. I wouldn't give them the steam of my piss.

I don't think bringing in more high performance Japanese into the country is something the government is actively in favour of

The only cars worth bringing in from Japan in the last few years are performance cars, the days of bringing in 1.5 Corollas and Camry diesels for use as taxis are gone.

Surprisingly I have seen the odd imported last-gen Corolla and Vitz around - probably autos though.

Was looking to buy a jap car, and saw couple at Jap cars that I liked but after what eveybody is saying I think I will avoid. Thanks. Anybody recommend any other place.

WKD imports in Carlow are very good, they usually bring in stuff to order, but carry a small amount of stock.

That's a UK import - note the number plate holders, speedo in MPH, VIN plate in English, headlights, etc. Dunno what's the difference performance wise

Thats a bargain!! I dont think WKD imports will take a car as a trade in though which is what the OP wants, I think?

http://www.itr-dc2.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=1193 - some good info there on the differences, theres 10bhp less in the UKDM and it comes with more extras such as air con, cat1 security system, it also costs a good bit less to insure, the 10bhp is minimal to be honest and without octane booster the jap one loses some power run on our useless petrol too.(the ukdm runs better on the higher ron petrol as well though)

  • Registered Users Posts: 7,015 ✭✭✭Wossack

wow, the amount of pics those wkd folks take of their cars in stock is impressive! and pretty telling of a business imo

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,888 ✭✭✭nanook

Have to say I bought an a4 from them a while back and was more than happy with the deal and the service I got. Used to work in car sales years ago and I know what tyre kickers can do to your head.

Have a chat with them and see, if you like the car buy it. You will find that most complaints are from people who did not get the service or deal that they expected.

I'd much rather a UK DC2 than a Jap one, both in terms of looks and also in general they are usually cleaner.
Also, in terms of Jap car sales places, I'd avoid the one on the Dock road in Limerick too, bunch of assholes.

yeh i held out for the uk dc2 myself and am really happy with it, think the look is far more sporty looking, the JDM one just looks flat faced and boring to me, if you want a hardcore racing machine though then the 96 spec jap on is the best to go for as its the lightest model but hardest to live with.

the ukdm is also alot rarer on irish roads

Ya, another big reason that I like them!

Yeah few nice cars there, but they seem to have a bit of negative feeback on this site.

wouldnt buy a ITR unless it was brand new... every single one is either trashed or driven by a novice but that can be said about can make/car for arguemnts sake....
