Activity over Athlone

There was an awful lot of activity over the skies of Athlone this evening. It sounded like the little Air Corps jets/planes, flying straight over town, probably around ten times over the course of an hour or two. The one time I saw it, it was heading north to south, low and fast. The reason I caught that one was because I was out looking at the Garda helicopter which looked to be searching for something. They looked to come pretty close to one another at one stage as well. Would regularly get Air Corps helicopters in town flying in and out of the Army Barracks, and now and again I've seen and heard the jets/planes flying over, but never repeatedly over a two hour period in darkness. Anyone any ideas what might have been going on.

The PC9's in particular are up doing Night flying for the past week or so over Bal and X Country
