Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. Can Spurs make it into the UEFA Cup this year through league qualification?

They have really added two great signings in Hutton and Woodgate, now their defense is really solid and can actually cover for when King gets injuried. If they had signed Tiago I would have put this as an almost defo, but they are still kinda light in central midfield, however Ramos seems to finally have gotten Jenas to become the player his physical and technical abilities allow him to be. Currently 11 points off Blackburn with a game in hand. I think they might do it :)

    No, Spurs are pure gick.

Well there already in the Uefa cup next year so I think they might focus on winning it this year along with the Carling Cup

Thats a good point. Only makes sense to focus on going all out for the cups this year and just call the league campaign a bit of a right off with a comfortable mid table finish.

Theres been many a false dawn for the Spurs defence, to call them solid before they've even played together is quite an exaggeration. I'll believe it when I see it.

What are you basing this on? They have the underpinnings of a very good team and once they stop conceeding silly goals, will easily push any team in the PL..

It wouldn't surprise me in the slightest to see them finish ahead of Villa, City and Blackburn.

No! They've left it too late to start playing well. I don't think they'll make it into the top 10 this year. At the moment they're six points behind West Ham with a game extra played.

Ehh, I wouldn't be so confident.

Please remember that Woodgate is quite injury prone.
Hutton is a great player (and was rumoured to be a Villa target aswell) but as some Villa fans know all too well, there appears to be a period of adjustment for SPL players in the Premiership.

And Liverpool, who are behind Villa and level with City on points, yes?

of course they have a chance of making the top 7, tall order though but think theyve got the quality to push for those kind of places

as a spurs fan they can finish 17th for all i care if we won the league cup (and uefa cup).

in my life time spurs have won two trophies... fa cup and league cup... if spurs won two trophies this season i'd run laps of phoenix park naked!!

I'm pretty sure the rules were changed so that if they don't win the league cup final, they do not get into the UEFA Cup.

I think them not getting into Europe might not be the worst thing in the world, as if they don't, they can have a real shot at 4th place next year. Also if they do well this year, they might finally be high enough seeded so that they can get an easy draw in the 4th round.

    get that dig in!

love when the underlying theme of this whole forum comes out in completely seperate threads.

i reckon its not inconceivable for top 7, but i still dont reckon they will do it. villa, everton, blackburn, pompey and even the likes of west ham are going to really start putting the pressure on now. i think spurs have left it too late

I was just going to ask about this, because the rule confuses me completely.

Does it depend on who reaches the final of the FA Cup as well? Wigan didn't get into Europe for getting to the League Cup final a couple of seasons ago, was that the same year as when West Ham were in the FA Cup final?

    Nonsense

When Woodgate is fit, he is pretty good. Hutton is unproven. King is a real leader when fit. Dawson is a liability. Their midfield are very good going forward but very poor at protecting their back four which is why they have conceded so much this season. One Defensive midfielder and three atacking midfielding wont offer much protection. The spurs first choice midfield looks very good with Bale, Malbranque, Genius and Lennon but i still think they lack some steel.

Bale-King-Woodgate-Hutton/Chimbonda is a very good back 4 imo.

They defo could have used Tiago, no doubt about that, but I think they are a much better team than they were three weeks ago

These types of threads are great.

    Is it possible? Yes.

    Will it happen? Who knows.

    / thread.

Definitel better than 3 weeks ago, i agree. Will they challenge for a UEFA spot, yes, they could even win it this season!

    Chimbonda is off to Villa.

Bale-King-Woodgate-Hutton does look decent but i would lay odds that in a 60 game season, they will play together less than half the time due to injuries.

Do the UEFA Cup winners get a CL place?

Thats one of Spurs' main problems. These two will be constantly injured.

Don't think so unless changed in the last year or 2.

Sevilla won the 2006 Uefa Cup but played in the Uefa Cup 2006/2007 season from the start

I can't help thinking that if you're smart - posting on football forums is a huge waste of your time. I'm going to go back to ignoring this forum for a while.

nope, you got to win the league cup to go through. runner up doesnt get a Uefa cup placing, it goes to the league if the winner already has a european place

I took a look at the rest of our games this season, and it probably the 'easiest' run in we've had in years. Im not saying we are automatically going to get 30 point out of our last 12 games, but if you were ever going to say it was possilbe, this would be the situation.

everyone predicted arsenal to drop to 8th and liverpool to be pushing for the title. predictions mean nothing. and hopes and dreams are just that.
if thats meant to be some sort of damning statement about, then its pretty crap :)

Could you please tell me what was wrong with my post? The poster went out of his way to say that Spurs could possibly finish above Villa, City and Blackburn - the teams in 5th, 6th and 8th respectively. If they could finish above the teams in 5th and 6th, why shouldnt it be possible that they could finish above the team in 7th - because you happen to support them?
