A trainee accountant in my office has a client who has two employees living at the same address who the exact same PPS number. She has been getting alot of abuse from this client and really doesn't want to get involved with his hiring policies but is she legally obliged to at least inform her boss that there appears to be something dodgy going on. The client is adamant that she is mad and that there is nothing unusual with the imformation supplied but its not possible to people to have the same PPS number.

Tell the trainee to inform their boss (manager, partner, whatever), and pass the buck to them . Thats what the bosses are paid for. A trainee cannot or should not make any judgments or decisions on this one.

    Or contact revenue.

There is a "contact locator" on the left hand side of the revenue home page. Just click on it and enter the PPS number, it will tell you their local disctrict. Call them and explain, they can tell u over the phone.

it used to be the way that when people got married they both had the same pps number except the woman would have an extra W at the end.
ie guy would have 1111111H and the wife would have 1111111HW.

Id imagine its probably just a clerical error in the employers records , ie the missing W
