Not fantastic. Those speeds vary. My line stats are brilliant, and yet, cannot maintain a constant stream of data at the proper speed.

P.S. My Interleaver Depth used to be set to 1/1 (down/up) before the upgrade, and now it's set to 64/8. Is that the level of Interleaving Eircom have placed on the line?

Here's a link to a previous post of mine, showing my stats before the upgrade:

Sounds like it. My 1 meg connection is still on 1/1.

Jaysus!! and it changed your service provider as well!

This is the thing. I can be either UTV or BT. I use my parents' BT login at times when the UTV gateway is clogged. But I do pay UTV. I was surprised that it worked. I had to try, and thank God that it paid off! (handy for cap evasion too) :)

Here's my new speed test (just switched over to my UTV login):
    301851990.png

Can anyone else with a BT Voyager router (mine's a 210) confirm that the Interleaving Depth is showing 64/8 (down/up) in their stats? I'd be very grateful for any information and insight. :)

those pings are very high for the 3meg package, they should be 10 to 15ms... im really wishing this upgrade would not happen now.....

Do a Trace Route, so we can establish where the delay is.

In the Command Prompt window, type "tracert boards.ie" (without the quotes). Apologies if you already knew that, but it can be used by others too to establish what server is causing they delays too.

I was wondering why the first hop was to IP 10.0.0.1. Question answered.

To answer your question, the delay begins with your ISP on 83.71.114.65 and both continues and worsens on 83.71.115.3, so it's them that's causing it for sure. Both of those are servers belonging to your ISP and if the latency was lower from you to them, then your Boards.ie latency would also be lower. From those IP's, it can be told that your ISP is Eircom.

Give it a week or so, and if things don't improve, call Eircom to discuss the matter and perhaps ask them to reduce your interleaving setting (or again, ask them to switch you to fastpath instead).

A nicer tool to do Trace Routes is this GUI version you can copy and paste from.

    Download it from:
    http://www.deceifermedia.com/main/files/applications/wftrace.exe

Here's a screenshot showing you its simple usage:
    wftrace.jpg

Just type in the address or IP you want to trace your route to, and then hit Start! You can then select the data, then copy and paste it as normal.

That delay is outrageous. Are you using a Wi-Fi or Ethernet connection to your Router? Normally, if your connection is idle and the Router is not doing any work you'd get >1 ms (less than 1 ms) from your PC to Router via Ethernet. Wi-Fi would be slightly more.

Now, assuming your connection is not being used (no downloads or other activities going, etc., on any PC that utilizes the connection), the second hop to your ISP's gateway is absolutely appaling. I've never seen that unless there's maintenance issues on the ISP's end.

If your connection is not idle, or you are unsure, please make sure to try again when it is idle and you are sure. Otherwise, those results are inaccurate and useless.

EDIT: One last thing. Sorry if you've mentioned it before, but what speed is your connection and what actual speed is your Router syncing at?

It's their own gateway that seems to be the problem.

I think it's the Interleaving in general that's the problem. You just can't seem to ping any domestic servers at 10-15-20ms anymore! But yeah, the problem is beginning right there, as you said.

What is it you do? Something in networking?

My modem claims the interleave depth is set at 1/1:

I'm between jobs at the moment but was previously working for Marx Computers in Dublin, mostly doing repairs and the like. But in the past I was doing networking installs in schools for the NCTE broadband scheme. Mostly in north Kerry and west Limerick.

Yes, due to high interleaving. Read back a few pages or more and you'll see it being discussed.

Would someone please explain exactly what the impact of higher pings means.
I have a 3Mb line which I hope to have increased to 7.6Mb on weekend 9th. August. Speedtest tells me I'm currently pinging at about 50, but sometimes it can be 90 or higher. The speed increase will allow me to download faster, but what will increased pings mean.

Ping times are like the response time of a line.

A 1Mbps line with a ping of 5 will appear faster for normal browsing than a 12Mbps line with a ping of 500.

Bad. But you're not alone. High interleaving is causing you to ping your own ISP's gateway slower than what you used to be able to ping a server in the UK at. We're hoping it's temporary, and I am willing to give them a week or two to get it sorted. If they don't, I'm going to downgrade to the new 3Mb package in hopes of gaining lower interleaving. It's no good going up to 7.6Mb if the pings are going to be off the scale permanently.

EDIT: Can anyone provide me with an email address to contact Eircom's Technical Support Team?
