I have just checked the BT site and it lists my exchange as 24Mb enabled. :)

Do I have to contact them to get this speed?
This is only for eircom + eircom reseller upgrades.

This thread is all about the BT LLU upgrades.

I've just been on to Eircom (again) about the interleaving issue, I told them I wanted to be downgraded to 3MB unless I could have my connection set on fast-path, they said they'd forward the request to the field technicians because they're unable to do it remotely and it should be switched within 5-10 working days. We'll see

Since the upgrade I was getting very erratic download speeds jumping fron 750Kb to 140 back up etc in the blink of an eye.
Rang BT tech support last night and he said "he could see the problem" (Don't understand how) he done a line check and said it was perfect and then he said he will escalate the issue and I'd receive a call soon......

10 minutes later, checked my speeds on url.ie/qv and I was getting 790Kbps constant with the odd fluctuation of 1-10Kbps, downloading the whole file with average speed of 777Kbps. Don't know if this is a coinsidence or is it possible that he could have fixed whatever the issue was as soon as I hung up????

Either way, I'm happy now. Pings still bad but don't game online so don't see that much difference.

    YEEEEEEEEEEEEEEAAH!

I have gone from 3mb down to 3mb and now my pings are back too!

Pinging boards.ie [89.234.66.107] with 32 bytes of data:
    Reply from 89.234.66.107: bytes=32 time=17ms TTL=59
    Reply from 89.234.66.107: bytes=32 time=16ms TTL=59
    Reply from 89.234.66.107: bytes=32 time=18ms TTL=59
    Reply from 89.234.66.107: bytes=32 time=16ms TTL=59

    Ping statistics for 89.234.66.107:
    Packets: Sent = 4, Received = 4, Lost = 0 (0% loss),
Approximate round trip times in milli-seconds:
    Minimum = 16ms, Maximum = 18ms, Average = 16ms

    Better than 60-70 for sure...

    Same stats too

    ADSL Link Downstream Upstream
Connection Speed 3072 kbps 384 kbps
Line Attenuation 48.0 db 28.0 db
Noise Margin 12.6 db 12.0 db

And instead of a ping of 125+ on speedtest

Just rang them and they said it was due to the upgrades. My line hasn't been upgraded yet so why am I suffering such huge pings and terrible speed ?

Web browsing for me on the supposed 7.6mb service has now become a very slow experiance. Slower than my old 3mb bt service.

Am I right in saying that if I downgrade to the old 2mb (now 3mb) service, the contention will double to 1:48 so it's likely that it will be slower?

    No
Unless your exchange has congestion problems @ night
If your from a small town or a village you should be safe.

Lower latency on 2mb/3mb/1mb means pages load quicker.

I'm in a smallish town, but even before the upgrade, it was pretty slow at peak times. I'm afraid it will be worse now at 1:48

    I'm getting 64/8 on a 7140

Thanks for that, it confirms that the interleaving is unbelievably high. I wonder if they will even change it? They said they would but I wouldn't hold my breath. Maybe if enough people downgrade?

Yeah I've a 7140 too by the way.

If I do a test on Speedtest.net to Dublin I get:

    311088113.png

If I do one to London or elsewhere I get something like this:

    311089098.png

So it's pretty obvious that the line to my house is not the problem. Anyone else noticing this?

    BTW this is consistently happening.

    This is always gonna happen.

Going from your house to dublin is a small distance with lots of backhaul.

Going from your house to london is a large distance with your data fighting lots of other users for space on the interconnectors between ireland and england.

No, my speeds from London are ok, I know speedtest.net isn't accurate but theres obviously an issue for you somewhere =/

    311094319.png

edit: JmC bet me to it, your London speed is crazy though for 7.6MB

    I'm not in Dublin. Trim.

Sorry but I have seen many times in the past when speeds to London were quicker than to Dublin so I don't go along with what you are saying. It surely has something to do with BT backhaul??

Does this look like 7.6 Megs to you?

upgraded from 2mb to 3mb, I used to get <50pings to a UK server. I am now getting 150-180 after the upgrade.

Seriously pissed off about this. I have no other alternatives to Eircom!

My download speed from London is over the 7000 mark, strange that everywhere in Ireland I can only get around 6800-6900

Speedtest gave me the following test results. Not too bad as I'm currently on the 3Mb (old 2mB). Ping like everyone else has gone up aswell.

Looks like I got the speed increase, just noticed it a minute ago when I was downloading an update on steam (it was downloading at 6MB!).

This is great news, considering the BT site said I would not get the speed increase until "post September".

    311418526.png

I still seem to be getting a decent ping on my servers - which are located in London. Around 50-60, a slight increase.

This is the best I can get, and it would be 150Kb/s less if I used the PPPoE setting instead of PPPoA.

    311456279.png

My router syncs at the full 7616/672. My attenuation is 3dB / 2dB (down / up) and SNR is 17.3dB / 12dB, and live 100m from my exchange.

I wonder why others can get higher speeds with lesser stats, even using BT Ireland, like me?

You are doing well do get that. Overheads on PPPoE are about 15%

You will never get full speed. There will always be overheads, they are just 8 bytes more available in the MTU when you choose PPPoA

The speed is grand, for the state of our nation. I was just wondering how other 7.6Mb'ers can get more, considering that my line is much better than average...

Must be some exchange issue, where each is different.

Check to see that nobody is uploading or downloading on your connection in the house. Make sure you're not doing any either. Then run the test again on all 3 Irish servers, and see what you get. Post them here too, if you want us to take a look.
