So here's the question; do you let your body sneeze or do you stop it by holding your nose. Just curious.:D

ah i enjoy an oul' Sneeze ya have to let it out. covering of course.

My boss Sneezes and then apologises but the way he apologises is like Sneezing is some Awful thing that people should never do.

theres a difference between holding your nose and covering it. I'd hold it in public, but not always when im on my own.

by 'holding' the nose, does the OP mean to avert the sneeze from occuring at all?

Sneezes can be caused by a slight irritation in the nasal area, so sometimes holding or rubbing / squeezing the nose can stop it and then no need to sneeze. It works most of the time.

I never understood how some people could hold there sneezes in.

It seems unnatural.

When I sneeze its a big affair and theres no way I could keep it in. My nose would explode!

I dont hold my nose but I do stop myself sneezing by tensing my body ... cant help it.

I don't know how they worked that out either but I love sneezing - especially if you get 2 or 3 big ones - the relief after is just a brilliant feeling.

Scary if you're driving though because of the having to close your eyes.

I wouldn't be surprised I've held my nose before and it hurt my ears bad. There is that tube that goes from your nasal cavity to your ear drums which could easily allow for your ear drums to be burst.

People who sneeze in public are kind of disgusting to see. Especially when they use the back of their hand to wipe after.

I love having a good sneeze, it's great

For all you holders out there I suggest a quick google search on it and you'll find it can cause sinus problems, middle ear issues and a few other problems. You sneeze for a reason!

Anyone else ever do one of those sneeze/cough/farts at the same time? Your body doesn't know whats happening!! Its like there has been a sudden evacuation of air from all your major orifices. :eek:

Try sneezing 8 times in a row next time you've a head cold, or a jar of pepper. You'll be a wee bit blissed out after it I tells ya

So do I. I don't understand how someone could HATE sneezing - it's a really pleasant feeling! And there's a sense of relief/release to it. Once again, that's sneezing I'm talking about.
I do kinda suppress sneezes though - I still manage to sneeze but I "block" it so that there won't be a shower of saliva (or worse) on the person nearest to me.

i dont care what anyone else says i can sneeze with my eyes open, they squint and go a little blurry but they definitely dont fully close, i make it a point to try it every time i sneeze now!

Unless I have a cold I never ever sneeze more than twice in a row. That's a bit odd I think.

Staying on topic and this actually happened last saturday in my local Supermarket .I stopped for a coffee after shopping in the restaraunt area and the two young female attendents were chatting away while i alone at the counter paid for the coffee when one let an unstopable sneeze at her co worker and quickly said '' Oh sorry Susan , i couldent stop it ,'' to which Susan with a smile on her face replied '' what is it with people sneezing on me today ? '' , just before i left work this morning i opened my mouth to yawn and my mother sneezed right into my mouth '' .

Myself and the other assistant looked at her and i said '' did you just say your mother sneezed into your mouth ? '' .

Susan replied as cool as daylight as if it were the most natural thing in the world and said '' yeah, and i got a mouthfull of droplets to '' :eek:

The three of us fell about laughing .
