Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

If someone has a legitimate OEM copy of Vista on a laptop and it gets smashed can that copy be transferred and registered to another pc if he has the original disk?

I don't think so no, it's tied to the machine.

You could have a gander through the EULA, if you're feeling brave, there may be clauses relating to broken hardware, but it's doubtful that there'd be anything of use to you.

No it's bound to the mother board, and only if the motherboard is replaced under warranty by the manufacturer would you be allowed put the OS back on the original laptop never mind another PC.

EULA sucks big time, but that's why OEM is so much cheaper than retail windows.

Try calling microsoft & tell them that you've upgraded the system, no need to explain that you've replaced every single part. They might unlock the key so you can activate it again with the new hardware.

At least the motor tax office have the decency to give a road tax refund if you can prove that your car has been scrapped.

By buying OEM, you give up the right to transfer, hence the discount.

Send your scrapped computer neatly packed in a box off to the Microsoft general office in Sandyford along with your original software. They will then know if you are genuine or not and might issue you with a brand new copy of Vista.
